Will Gilles Simon ever reach the top 10 again?

Gilles Simon is one of the world's most popular players. We admire his movement, defensive skills, superb backhand, ability to inject pace and turn defence into attack, and above all heart and courage. Who could forget his victories from behind over Federer (twice) and Nadal in 2008. And his magnificent run to the Australian Open QFs in 2009.

He is clearly one of the most talented players in the world, and can adapt his game to all surfaces. But sadly injuries this year have resulted in a drop in his ranking and a loss in his confidence. Will this much admired Frenchman manage to battle his way back into the top echelons of the game ? or are his best days behind him ?

Mug Op As for the actual question, at best he'll be a David Ferrer hanging around the top 20 except with indoors as his best surface instead of clay. Top 10 is more crowded than ever anyway, Roddick (who has become Simon with a serve) can't even stay in it.

Simon has twice Roddick's game. I called that upset. They have same game, Simon the better at executing it.

Twice his game and better at executing it? Right, and how many Slam titles/finals does Simon have? Are you confusing him with Murray who also has been in more Slam finals than Simon?

Top 10? I won't say no, but probably not. More likely I think is he will hang around the 12-18 range.

Re: Will Gilles Simon ever reach the top 10 again?

If simon had roddicks serve he would have won the same if not more than roddick imo.

Juan Martin Del Potro

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.

Lots of flaws in this post, as I have pointed out:

Who's we?
Anyone can inject pace.
The words "attack" and "Simon" should never be used in the same thread.
He is not one of the most talented players in the world. No way!!!
He can't adapt his game to all surfaces, he is hideously bad on clay.

The answer is no.
His fluke year was 2008, and that is two years behind us.

LET'S GO!!
SLAMS: 3 TITLES, 8 finals, 9 semi-finals, 8 quarter-finals...
WORLD TOUR FINALS: 1 TITLE, 3 semi-finals...
MASTERS: 14 TITLES, 7 finals, 12 semi-finals, 18 quarter-finals...
OLYMPICS: 2 gold medals, 1 silver...
DAVIS CUP: 1 TITLE, 1 semi-final, 1 quarter-final...
WORLD #1: 21 weeks and counting...
MATCH WIN/LOSS: 642-177...
TITLES: 45 and counting...

-we refeers to his fans and followers and there are some out there
-ok, you got that right
-oh come on, give him a break. he does score winners now and then
-you dont beat ljubicic in a leg if you are not talented however badly you choke. it requires talent to beat a non-french tennis player with one knee (i remember an AO match with kuerten beating saulnier)
-he does change his game and won 3 out of his 5 titles on clay.ok 2 bucharests and 1 casablanca whatever but he did win the titles.
