Even tho' I am a Roddick fan, I judge the USO '03 sf to be a nightmare of a match. Nalby should have won, and gone on to beat JCF. The only time Roddick won a GS, and I wasnt happy abt it.

Wasn't Nalbandian also injured in 2003 US Open semi. If so, even if he had won the semi, an injured Nalbandian would have lost to a tired Ferrero.

Players performing at the highest level over a 52-week period since I started following tennis:

Federer

Nadal Djokovic

Hewitt Roddick Murray Ferrero (Tard #28) Agassi

Kuerten Ferrer Coria Davydenko Del Potro Safin Nalbandian Ljubicic Wawrinka

2005 TMC final, David Nalbandian comes back from 2 sets to 0 down to beat Federer!

Thats the only time I have ever seen Fit Dave, and he was unstoppable! Federer was lucky to get a set really.

I have no doubt Nalbandian could have dominated tennis.

He seems to have shaped up recently judging from this video, so heres hoping!

Absolute bollocks. That was prime Federer!

If Federer had won just won of those last 3 sets, he would have gone on to equal John Mcenroe as 2005 being the most sucessful season for a player for win - loss. I think he only lost four matches including the TMC final in 2005!

He was on fire, destroying everyone, and even then was lucky to get the first set as he was being outplayed.

Stop with the injury bullsheit. Its almost as bad as the Rafatards saying Nadal was injured in 2009 FO.

Federer could barely walk throughout that TMC, coming from an ankle injury... Ray Charles could see it!!!

And my grandma would also have double bagelled Gaudio that day...

Fed wasn't injured. He was tired. In the 5th set, he said to the trainer that he had nothing left in his legs.

USO 2003 for sure was his closest.

2006 AO he had a great shot, and the French that year as well.

Re: What was David Nalbandians best chance to win a slam to date?

USO 03 was his closest but the fact that he lost was his own fault. That call would have affected Roddick more since it was before he even hit but he played it like a pro would and Nalbandian played like an amateur and didn't play it back. After that, what stopped him from taking the remaining two sets? He was a headcase, period.

there were more bad line calls during the whole match..

in the 5th set, nalbandian was facing a break point at *3-4, he hit a clear winner on the line and the ball was overuled by the umpire. roddick served for the match.
