Nadal's take on wimby courts

Bad news for anyone hoping that the surface might give Andy Murray the edge over Rafael Nadal in their semi-final. According to the Spaniard, Wimbledon is not now a grass court tournament. Deep in the second week of the Championships, with scarcely any rain having fallen, the lawns are turning into his favourite surface.

"The courts are playing perfect," he smiles happily. "Is dry. Lot of clay behind the baseline. Perfect."

Even Nadal admitting it's no longer a grass court out there.

:O Lucky Nadal. The courts won't play completely like clay though, so there's always a chance he'll still lose.

In the service area its still grass, its clay only behind the baseline, where the ball doesnt land in play. It affects only the movement.

That's part of ATP evil plan to make every surface suitable to their golden boy...

Green green clay of home.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Well, that's what happens after playing on a grass court for almost two weeks.

Oh yeah That will make getting winners against him even harder though

Nadal has already played 3 finals on a row here when the grass was faster and very wet (remember 2008 constantly being interrupted by rain). So dry conditions may improve his chances, but stop behaving like he had no chance on fast, wet grass, because it simply is not true.

Well, today is sure to be a great day: either my fave gets to his 4th final in the greatest slam of them all, or a Scot whom I've always liked teaches the English how to get there.

I'd much prefer the first outcome, but I'll sincerely enjoy the second one if it happens. Just hope Murray doesn´t beat Nadal only to stumble on the last step. That wouldn't do Andy, if you beat Nadal you have to take the crown.

Go watch finals from 30 years ago, there was hardly any grass left back then.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Nadal was being sarcastic in the presser. It sounds true though.

Re: Nadal's take on wimby courts

It's the harder and denser soil that also makes the courts a lot less like the old grass courts. That's another reason S/V died, the balls bounce so much higher these days, it's child's play to hit passing shots.
