Federer will rise

I believe that Federer will rise in 2011. Up the rankings. I think the game is notcatching up to him, he is can still beat Players like Berdych and Söderling. Meanwhile Djokovic is struggling, Murray had a weak season and we all know Nadal will tough time this fall. I hate it but Del Potro will also be a non-factor. Plus players like Davydenke are suddenly playing worse than before. Plus they might be a breakdown next year that we don't know yet.

Federer himself. His game has gone down a bit, just enough for the younger generation to sneak some wins. Federer has enough game to stay competitive in Slams. He will focus on the Slams. He will go deep. I am confident he will win one next year.

All this equals Federer rising up to down to 2 or 1 in the rankings at the conslusion of 2011. and then the question is, will he be ready to take Olypic gold in 2012.

Re: Federer will rise

i agree with this, but i want him to win more than just one more slam. i want him to keep winning slams into his 30's. but to do that he must adapt. he must not be stubborn and he must get a proper coach who can really help him with strategy against the ballbashers. that will do it in my opinion. but will he stop being stubborn?

Re: Federer will rise

threads like this will certainly fire up his haters, now that's fact on topic, if he's got the brains to make adjustments to his game and stop being stubborn, he surely can stay competitive for a bit and especially at majors.

Well, thank goodness you qualified that first sentence.

A great relief.

I think Fed will float around the top of the game until he retires. I don't see him being like Jimmy Connors fighting his way through the draw at majors -- even though I think Federer would like to have that record too. He will always be a major threat in any tournament he chooses to enter.

Re: Federer will rise

He'll rise from #35 in rankings to #33 when he wins a Challenger vs Wayne Odesnik.

Ernests Gulbis. Robin Soderling. Tomas Berdych.

Del Potro ~ Tsonga ~ Simon ~ Chardy ~ Verdasco ~ Djokovic ~ Gasquet

The Federror #1 reign is over for good. The king is dead. Praise Odin!!

He won one this year.

I guess you should have titled this thread

"Federer will do at least as well next year as he does this year. And even though nearly everyone else would kill for such a year, for Federer, it means he should retire"

But I guess that would have been kind of long

If you haven't realized it, this whole thread (both the title and the first post) is a play on Everko's "Federer will fall" - a thread made of fail and more fail.

Were you so desperate to post this that you sent from a phone?

edit: were you making fun of Everko's English? I don't read his posts/threads.

I don't know if Federer will win a Slam next year - I'd say it's more likely he will than will not. He's not winning Wimbledon 2010 though, and that is where my focus is. Maybe you should have posted this in the Fed forum Can't be much to talk about there at the moment.

Ya, I get it. It isn't funny.

I was just pointing out that, if Fed wins one slam next year as the OP suggests, he won't have risen, but rather simply stayed steady.

Re: Federer will rise

i remember when Sampras lost to Hewitt in the 2001 USO final, after losing to Safin one year earlier at the same stage, people started to seriously write him off. then he went to lose in the 1st round of Wimbledon to the mighty Bastl in 2002, and needless to say that the critics got louder. then he had a poor hardcourt season leading up to the USO but managed to win his last major nonetheless, without being the favorite no more. Rusedzki even said Sampras'd lose his next match after their 5 sets thriller in their R3 match and was that Sampras half a step slower. not saying that Federer will do the same though.

some funny comments in there.

Sampras and Agassi taught me never to write off a champion -- particularly not one with superior god given talent.

Re: Federer will rise

from federers presser:

Quote:
Q. Will this make you hungrier to make you come back and show you can lift this title again?

ROGER FEDERER: Sure. God, I can't wait for Paris and Wimbledon to come around next year again, that's for sure.
Quote:
Q. Do you feel you can get back to a position of domination in tennis?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I do think that. That's why I'm here.
