Thumbs down What will happen on the 2nd week of Wimbledon?

On other circunstances grass results used to be easier to predict winners. But if you see the draw in detail you will see that this year is not going to be so easy to predict the finalists.

On the upper side of the draw: Roger is not on his best form and will have to use something more than his credentials to reach the final as he will have to overpower Melzer in 1/8 and potentially Berdych in 1/4. Roddick shouldn`t have many troubles to beat Lu and Hewitt has a big opportunity to beat Djokovic. But I don`t think that Hewitt can beat Roddick. So I would say that Roddick has a great chance to reach the final of Wimbledon again.

On the lower side of the draw: Anything can happen between Tsonga and Benneteau. But Murray can reach the semis if he can overcome the biggest test that he will have to face on the whole tournament until now with Querrey. If so he will have the biggest chances to be on semifinals. On the other hand Nadal shouldn`t have many troubles to beat Mathieu but he will find a Soderling that potentially has bigger chances to put him away of Wimbledon 2010 that Roland Garros 2009. If Soderling reaches the semifinals Murray will have less problems to beat him and reach the finals then. But I`m not sure that Murray can beat Nadal on a potential semifinal.

[B]My hall of fame: Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal-Jo Wilfried Tsonga-David Ferrer-Juan Carlos Ferrero-Tommy Haas- Radek Stepanek-Lleyton Hewitt-David Nalbandian-Guillermo Cañas-Carlos Moya-Pete Sampras-Petr Korda- Kent Carlsson-Richard Krajicek-Karol Kucera-Tim Henman-Alex Corretja-Thomas Muster-Michael Stich-Pat Cash-Patrick Rafter-Darren Cahill-Ivan Lendl-Mats Wilander-Miloslav Mecir-Karel Novacek-Joakim Nystrom-Henrik Sundstrom-Hans Simonsson-Anders Jarryd-Jimmy Connors-Bjorn Borg-Guillermo Vilas.

Re: What will happen on the 2nd week of Wimbledon?

I think Fed is safe against Melzer but I definitely think Berdych will be a much stronger test who could take him out.

As for Nadal, he should beat Paulo with no much problems but Soda should be a stronger test too.

Tsonga should struggle against Bennie but he should get the win in 4 or 5 sets.

Murray will beat Querrey in 3 (or at most 4) sets without too many problems.

Roddick should beat Lu but it won't be as easy as many people expect.

The Hewitt-Nole match is the most interesting of the next round. I'm tempted to say Hewitt will win but I'm not that sure, tbh.

It should be Federer-Berdych and then Roddick vs. the winner of the match of the day, Hewitt/Djokovic.

Tsonga-Murray and Soderling-Nadal are also favored QF matchups.

Anything beyond that is difficult to say. Anyone can beat anyone at that point.

Re: What will happen on the 2nd week of Wimbledon?

1.Federer, despite playing massive shit, is going to make the final. I don't know how it's going to happen, but I can bet my house on it.
2. If cheater and shitplayer Nadal reaches the final, or what's even worse, wins to whole tournament, I break up with tennis.

This is not Fedtard bullshit, because if Federer doesn't win, it's ok for me. I just could not stand Flukedal winning Wimbledon.

Re: What will happen on the 2nd week of Wimbledon?

Fed should beat Melzer, but after that he will be very tested. Djokovic-Hewitt could be excellent, as could an ensuing Djokovic-Hewitt winner vs. Roddick. On the bottom half, I hope Mathieu will test Nadal but I sense that Rafa will turn it up a little. Soderling should beat Ferrer to set up a great quarter with Nadal. Tsonga should beat Benneteau but those all-French affairs, anything can happen. And Murray should beat Querrey but hopefully it's entertaining. From then on, we should have some great quarterfinals and semifinals, and hopefully a final that matches the last 3 Wimbledon finals

Re: What will happen on the 2nd week of Wimbledon?

Can't see anything else besides a Murray vs Soderling SF in the bottom half of the draw, I have no idea who would win though.

Top half is still a mystery to me, I can see Roddick making the final, but I have no idea about the rest of the top half.

Re: What will happen on the 2nd week of Wimbledon?

Nadull will be knocked out by either Sod or Muzz. Murray will reach the final. Fed might too, but it will be harder for him. Fakervic will be knocked out by Hewitt I think. If he manages tio beat Lleyton, he doesn't stand a chance against Roddick.

Murray could win the tournament this year, he should get past Querrey easily tomorrow.

Re: What will happen on the 2nd week of Wimbledon?

PMac said on twitter that he feels there will be a lot of upsets on Monday. He also said one of his former coaches predicts that Melzer will beat Federer. Roger may not be playing in top gear but I don't think he'll lose to Melzer.

The only matches that look like potential dogfights to me are Hewitt-Djokovic and Tsonga-Benneteau.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."
