The amazing premonitory powers of Ceefax

On BBC teletext today, at 3-3 in the second set between Fish and Lopez, there was a headline announcing an all-American final at Queens and stating that "Fish saw off Lopez, the conqueror of Nadal, in straight sets 6-3 xxx". So, confident enough to guarantee the outcome, but not yet certain of the score.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

I'm pretty sure the journalists start writing up their articles before the match finishes so that they can update it on Ceefax as soon as possible after it is over. Perhaps this was just a draft that wasn't meant to officially go up at that time?

Someone at K-Swiss let slip about the payoffs.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.
