Could Fed take Sampras No. 1 weeks record by playing Eastbourn?

Why not take Halle and then next week sneak another 250 ATP title like Eastbourne to secure weeks at No 1 record? Would it be enough?

Seems like a valid approach to me or is it a bad idea?

I think the Wimbledon title is much more important to him. It would be a bad idea to overplay, he needs to be fresh for Wimbledon.

Playing two weeks straight before playing wimbledon where he is defending 2000 points would prob not be that smart. Another slam I would think matters more to Fed than the number 1 record.

He could but the Wimbledon-title is much more important for Fed.

If it was his only chance, he would probably do it.

But this won't be the case.

But playing on grass seems to be so effortless for him. You seriously think it would endanger his performance at Wimbledon? Okay, maybe a bad idea to play 4 weeks straight because of mental focus...
I'm still unclear, would winning Halle and Eastbourne be enought to take No.1 back?

Nadal now has 8700 pts.
If Fed would win Halle and Hertogenbosch/Eastbourne, he would have 8710. But Nadal played Queen's QF what gives him 45 pts. more. -> No chance for Fed anyway.

Re: Could Fed take Sampras No. 1 weeks record by playing Eastbourn?

fed already played 2 250 events this year...no max ammount to gain from halle, nor eastbourne/'bosch

Q. Do you think you would have been able to play as well as you played today, or you think you would have pulled out from the game if it wasn't the Masters Cup final?

ROGER FEDERER: No, Roger Federer doesn't pull out. Otherwise he doesn't walk on court (smiling).

After losing to Nalbandian in 2005 TMC final...

This really isn't something I'd see Federer do. Does anybody know anyway if he is that keen on the record? Maybe he doesn't want it yet, to leave some degree of suspense in his career.

Re: Could Fed take Sampras No. 1 weeks record by playing Eastbourn?

No.

The ATP only counts the best 2 ATP 250 for top 30 players. Thus Federer could only gain 250-90=160 max. in both Halle and Eastbourn because he's already played 2 ATP 250 this year (Doha and Estoril) where he made the SF in both.

There's no mathematical chance whatsoever for Federer to reclaim the no 1 before or immediately after Wimby.

Re: Could Fed take Sampras No. 1 weeks record by playing Eastbourn?

Roger might have a shot later in the year, but right now? pretty pointless to push even if he had the option, he's the #1 seed at Wimbledon anyway, so why bother?
