Federer signs life time agreement with Halle?

Is that even allowed? I mean did he get paid extra to do that?

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Ten...-Contract.aspx

And what happens if he retires in 2 years? Now that'd be tough on the tournament. They need better players though

This Federer may drop to number 2 tomorrow but still has money in his eyes

I think years ago he signed a lifetime agreement with Wilson too.

Well, the agreement is until the end of Fed's career so I guess that's not an issue. I am kind of interested in knowing what if he gets injured or is too tired to play Halle after the FO...

what's in it for him, a sure kick-ass draw?

as if most of the top 10 prefer playing in halle than in queens.

Why Federer has never played Queens? I think it's a more prestigious grass event...

8th day of July 2012: 7-time Wimbledon champion!

Once upon a time there was a myth about strong and weak eras. On this glorious day the clownery was eventually unmasked: 30 y.o. past-prime daddy Fed became #1 once again in the supposed strong "Spartan" era with his rivals at their peak.
And they all lived happily ever after.
Long live King Federer!

The courts in Halle are more similar to Wimbledon than Queens.

Shame that I'll never be able to see him play at Queen's then. I would have liked him to make at least a cameo appearance at the British warmup event for Wimbledon at some point in his career.

halle has a better atmosphere and better weather. also the courts are better imo. queens is old school.

Re: Federer signs life time agreement with Halle?

Halle has better spectator facilities - a much bigger centre court and a roof. queens has better quality courts, and of course all the history and tradition. I respect Fed's decision to play in Halle - he obviously has done well there in the past, enjoys playing in Germany, and doesn't want to run into his major rivals on grass before wimbledon.

Anyway, Queens once again has an exceptional line-up this year - many top stars competing, including Nadal, Murray, Roddick, Djokovic, Schuettler. Can't complain about that.

Halle's also always been great for Federer as far as his preperation for Wimbledon goes. You really can't seem him ever changing to Queens.

Allez!

Re: Federer signs life time agreement with Halle?

What are the criteria that a tournament must fulfil to be an ATP 500? Personally I think Helle more than fits the bill. And as far as the lineups in Doha and Queens go, they're usually far better than most ATP 500 tournaments. Hardly surprising, given the lack of proper warmup tournaments (ie. a Masters on that surface) prior to the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Re: Federer signs life time agreement with Halle?

And yet they insist on having 2 Masters AFTER the AO (and don't get me started on how long they take) and 357 Masters on clay. But let's not turn this thread into another rant about the current schedule.

Allez!

Re: Federer signs life time agreement with Halle?

Wimbledon should me moved a couple of weeks forward and Halle and Queens one week (and be made ATP 500).

I dunno what they haven't done this. I know some people wouldn't like to see anything changed with their beloved Wimby but a couple of weeks changes virtually nothing. I think it would even benefit the Wimby organizors becuase it would help to prepare the players better for the tournament.

People complain that we don't have good grass court players but how can we have them when they only play 3 or 2 weeks a year on grass...

Re: Federer signs life time agreement with Halle?

I agree with you andy, but there needs to be further changes than just that. There are currently 5 Masters 1000 tournaments prior to the French Open and precisely none leading up to the Australian Open or Wimbledon.

I don't think many of the juniors out there today would find it a worthwhile investment of their time to hone their grass court skills given the dearth of tournaments on the surface. A bit sad really for the sport in the modern day, given its evolution from the early days of lawn tennis.
