Yes, I think he has a good chance. 4 7.27%
Are you out of your mind? Nadal is too good. 40 72.73%
He could, but logically he would have to beat Fed en route, and he can't do that. 11 20.00%

Poll: Do you think Tsonga has the game to drop Nadal in Paris?

Jo Wilfried Tsonga is one of a few notable players to beat Nadal quite badly at a grand slam in the last few years. Him, Soderling, Murray and Del Potro being the other main ones.

Do you think Tsonga, G'd up by the home crowd, if he had an unbelievable match, could drop Nadal on clay over 5 sets?

Before you say get out of here, people would have reacted the same way if I asked the same question about Soderling a year ago, and look what happened.

Tsonga is travelling okay this year, being the only French player left. He seems to struggle in the latter stages of a GS if he has too many long matches, so he would need to reach the semis or final relatively fresh to do so. Or if they met in another year in the 4th round say.

Mentally he knows he has the game to beat Nadal, he belted him in the past. But could he do it on his home ground, with an anti Nadal crown, Nadal maybe not quite at his best with a few niggles?

"I did not play my best tennis, no? And..that is what enable him to win..to win this match no? "

- Rafael Nadal, ever so "humble", - press conference after shock 4 set loss to Robeen Soderling @ 2009 French Open 4th round.

lol no. Clownga can't even beat Nadal on a hardcourt.

He won't beat Federer either if they happen to meet.

If Jo is 100% and Nadal isn't then yes.

Re: Poll: Do you think Tsonga has the game to drop Nadal in Paris?

No, since he can't beat him on hard court, and his chances on clay would be decreased further. That forehand to backhand battle would kill Tsonga's chances like it does on hard.

No. Tsonga moves poorly on clay and has not beaten Nadal on a hardcourt since the AO match.

With that mug backhand, Tsonga can't beat Nadal anywhere.

Players who make me...
:Federer - Davydenko - FitDave - Cilic
:Safin - Monfils - Non-Slam Federer.
:Nadal - Roddick - Murray

If he get 100% on first serve and doesn't hit an unforced errors he would run nadal close i think.

Juan Martin Del Potro

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.

Re: Poll: Do you think Tsonga has the game to drop Nadal in Paris?

Tsonga is not a good clay player because he often pulls the trigger too early, he loses nerves and patience when his opponent tries to force him to play long rallys, it's a major problem when you want to beat Nadal on clay

another problem with Tsonga : his footwork on clay is not perfect, he is physically too muscular, a little heavy like a boxer which is not an ideal thing when you want to move quick on clay on a long time against Rafa,

Tsonga also can have injuries if he plays both too long and too agressive on court, this can be a nightmare for Tsonga if the match lasts 5 long sets,

in fact Tsonga can beat Nadal only on hardcourt and indoor court when conditions allow him to make the point very quickly ( with huge serve + low bounce + huge forehand or smart volley )

if you search the best player who can annoy Nadal on clay so you need to find an excellent baseliner player with huge serve, a huge forehand and a two-hands backhand ( a solid backhand against the Nadal's lefty forehand ),

good candidates to beat Nadal on clay might be Del Potro, Soderling and... Gulbis if he does really his homework

No, Nadal figured him out. He lost how many 5 in a row to Nadal, all on hard courts. No chance in hell he's gonna stop Nadal on clay. No chance.

in love with an idiot

Re: Poll: Do you think Tsonga has the game to drop Nadal in Paris?

they will not even face each other, tsonga is not making it to the final, he will have to get past fed in the SF and i bet he will not even win a set there.

tsonga will not beat nadal, his backhand is suspect against nadal's topspin FH, and that one time tsonga beat nadal was like 2.5 years ago.
