If Laver, McEnroe and Nadal weren't lefties....

.. would they have been such greats?

I recon they would still have won slams and all but not as many. I guess Nadal would have a more even head-to head with Federer.

Thought?

They are. End of the story. There's no need to discuss this.

J-Mac and Rafa probably wouldn't be as effective, but at the same time, natural talent is natural talent regardless. I think Laver is just that special for it not to matter.

Fed would have a positive H2H with Nadal.

Re: If Laver, McEnroe and Nadal weren't lefties..

I've often wondered whether Nadal would have been a better player had he used his natural hand to play tennis. Uncle Toni once said he would probably had a better serve...

In any case, it's impossible to know. Maybe he'd be a better player or maybe just the contrary.

So Rosewall, Borg, Connors, Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, Sampras, Agassi and Federer would have even more slams if they were lefties?

Pointless question.

Laver and Nadal: the right bicep would be the bigger one
Mac: he'd still have puny arms

Always on the lookout for a great tennis match.

You don't say Captain Obvious.

But results wise, serve-and-volley players like Laver and McEnroe would have lost a key advantage of their game and probably would have fewer slams, not taking a lot from them.

For Nadal, he would bully less the backhand but he's a natural rightie and one can assume his serve would have been more dominant. I guess he'd still have the same results.

Re: If Laver, McEnroe and Nadal weren't lefties....

It's stupid putting Nadal in this thread because he isn't even a natural leftie.

Either way, it's a pointless discussion. You could say the same about any part of any player's game. The bottom line is, most of the top players' games are abilities that they were born with. Whether it be being left-handed, a great serve, great timing, great movement etc. Of course they had to work hard to refine these abilities and work on skills they couldn't naturally master. But you make it seem as if being a lefty is an unfair advantage -- if it is then so is Federer having one of the best forehands in the world.

I don't think it factors in that much really. Federer for example, would probably still have lost those RG Finals against Nadal, I think.
