Rome fans are pathetic!

I can't stand the fans in Rome this year. They don't respect players, specially Nadal. Most of them seem to be Federer fans frustrated because their boy lost in 1st round and can only hope that Nadal doesn't win Rome again.
All those screams, booes and whistles are uncalled for.
How can you boo a player for checking a mark when he's right or the ball was damn close? They booed Lahyani yesterday because he showed a ball from Gulbis was out!!! Are they so blind?

Why boo Verdasco because he is playing injured after 3 weeks playing? He didn't quit and kept playing. Is it how the Rome fans appreciate his effort after a great match against Djokovic?

Even Gulbis was harassed with loud screams and whistles when he played Federer. Rooting for the underdog? Nope, they rooted AGAINST the underdog! Why? Federer fans!
They did the same to Nadal yesterday. Rome fans went all crazy when Gulbis won points and all silent when Nadal won. So they rooted for the underdog then, right? Nope, that's not why.
Rome is filled with desperate Federer/anti Nadal fans. Some are still bitter from the Rome final in 2006 when Nadal beat Federer saving 2 MP.
Nadal is the most successful player ever in Rome. YES!!!

Re: Rome fans are pathetic!

Federer didn't lost in first round.

Tsonga - Wawrinka - Del Potro - Gasquet - F.Lopez - Monfils - Haas - Janowicz - Youzhny - Tomic - Hewitt - Gulbis - Mahut - Haase - Schoorel - Sijsling - Huta Galung - De Bakker - Van der Duim - Westerhof - Middelkoop - Koolhof - Lootsma - S&T. Griekspoor - Sels - Van Rijthoven

All time: Safin - Schalken - Krajicek - Sluiter - Verkerk - Henman - Ivanisevic - Nalbandian - Ferrero - Philippoussis - Sampras - Siemerink - Blake - F.Gonzalez - Ancic - Haarhuis/Eltingh

Re: Rome fans are pathetic!

I really didn't care about them in Rafa's match (he is all ready Roman emperor and they can't do anything about that) but they were cruel to Verdasco

Really shame, cause they was in position to watch two great matches on that beautiful stadium yesterday

Re: Rome fans are pathetic!

Crowds are going to do what they want to do, as long as they don't throw chairs, stab the players. Then they can and cheer whoever they want.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I liked the woman in the RF cap yesterday who was praying during Gulbis' last service game

This thread is pathetic.

Re: Rome fans are pathetic!

You forgot the RG crow who is at least as horrible.

Both may have the same crowd composed of snobs, elitists and bobos, which is indeed the main public of Federer.

Against Verdasco it was pathetic, he wasn't even deliberately 'tanking'...

Re: Rome fans are pathetic!

I agree with the first post. It's a shame, really. They booed Gulbis when he played against Fed and Volandri and then, suddenly, they became his fans. Pathetic.

Re: Rome fans are pathetic!

The bias towards Italian players is worse. Gulbis beat both Volandri and the crowd in that match. Booing a player for checking a mark on clay is just a sign that the crowd there is not really tennis fans but rather fans of a player.

Re: Rome fans are pathetic!

It never happens in Spain, France or New York either.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

on clay Federer is the underdog or at least only a challenger for the title

As for Nadal, same phenomenon as in Roland-Garros : beating him on clay is the toughest challenger a player can ever meet, hence the reactions

useless old guy

Paying a ticket doesn't give you the right to disrespect players as they did.
