Rome R3: Tsonga def. Giraldo 6-3 6-4

Lost amid all the talk about LaLo's marathon win over Ljubicic.

What a qt this Giraldo and fun to watch, especially on the forehand side. He just didn't have enough power.

Tsonga whined about a line call, celebrated like he'd won a major.

I guess Giraldo is not winning Roland Garros after all. I will say that the guy has a very nice game but he still needs a lot of things to work on. What was with the Tsonga celebration??? it looked like he was being chased by bees. Dude you just beat a qualifier, simmer down you will be out by next round anyways!

Interestingly Tsonga has had a very regular season so far, but no titles.

Giraldo tanked. He can't risk an injury going into the French Open.

The difference in this match went down to the serve quality, defensive ability, baseline consistency, plus some occasional net play, which all favored Tsonga. Giraldo is a good ball basher with a lot of weaknesses and no variety. Tsonga did what was expected, and did so comfortably.
