Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

God this is gonna be huge!!! Haas and Hewitt have had some really bitter encounters over the past, they have been mostly very close and some of them very tragic. A0 2001, Haas led in every set, yet still lost in straights, after leading 5-0 in the first. Also the US Open the same year after leading 7-6 2-2 overnight, Hewitt then came back and took it comfortably.

And Hamburg this year, NOW that was tragic. Well what do you guys think will happen this time round??

this is gonna be a thriller and I can't wait! Who to cheer for? I love them both and hope one of these two wins the tournament! (unless Robredo miraculously wins tonight!)

Re: Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

Well!. They're both my fav players left in the bottom half. Tommy was unlucky at USO 2001, and Lleyton was the eventual champion conquering Roddick, Kafel and Sampras. Tommy did achieve the revenge at Stüttgart indoor later.
Lleyton has been playing good tennis these days with straight titles at Washington and Long Islam after to have been runner-up at Cincy, and also got good wins this tournament.
Haas needs to be more aggressive to face Lleyton since he did play today with so much margin making less winners and UE than Tomas. Lleyton is very patient and combatant player and Haas shouldn’t outline a game in this way.
Haas has not been very lucky against Andy this summer although he came with a positive h2h record. Lleyton has a favorable h2h record facing Andy although lost to him at Queens early this year.
We'll see!

Re: Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

This match is gonna be awesome, well at least I hope it's going to be. Both Lleyton and Tommy are playing so good, I expect a thriller, maybe 5 sets. I really want Tommy to win this match, but I just think Lleyton is playing a level above Haas and he's gonna pull through, and his mental side will be a pretty important factor since Tommy can turn into a :retard: at times.

PATHETIC is a more suitable word for those encounters.

I like both Tommy and Lleyton equally so I'll be happy either way

Re: Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

If nobody plays above what we have seen from them already in this tournament, I guess Haas' performance so far will not be enough and Lleyton will outlast him in three or four sets.

My feeling goes to Lleyton so far... but of course Tommy basically has the weapons in his game to beat him, but just keeping the ball in play won't do it for him, he needs to more aggressive and start hitting winners and coming in to the net if he hits a good approach to attack. Playing like against Berdych today won't do it for Tommy, Hewitt won't squander too many 0-30 or 15-40 leads on Haas' serve like Berdych was doing today. Hewitt has match experience and was on fired-up. Unless Lleyton gets up on the wrong side of the bed in their Quarterfinal, Tommy has definitely to bring up his A-Game against Lleyton.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Re: Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

I'd like a close, entertaining match. But, just looking at their form, I think Lleyton has the edge. It seems to me that Tommy is hanging too far behind the base line. If he goes on the offense and works the net, the match could go either way.

Re: Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

I think this will only be a good match if Tommy can pull of the first set. Lleyton is mentally strong enough to stay focus and come back to make the match interesting. If Lleyton wins the first set, I think it will be a huge confidence blow for Tommy that he might sort of go away for the remaining sets.

I'm glad this rivalry has been revived.
Currently the H2H is 5:4 Hewitt.

Re: Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

Some of the stats fron Haas' match againt Berdych are pretty bloody impressive

Had 59% of first serves but got 19 aces

Had 10 unforced errors and 40 winners

Even if this match is close in the beginning, I think Lleyton should be able to edge Haas out on the important points, which will only frustrate him and give Lleyton more opportunities to pounce

Re: Haas vs Hewitt, the showdown

Haas served very well today 19 aces. He'll need all of that and more to beat Hewitt. Also the winner error ratio was great. But if he wants to beat Hewitt, he cant just sit back and wait for errors, like today. He needs to attack, start going for winners, and also come to net frequently. He did netheir today. Should be a great one
