Gulbis: I don't like to practice

This Ernie is good for a few quotes. At least he admits it, unlike Philippoussis.

Quote:
"I'll go on court, play my best and whatever happens is okay. If I lose 6-2, 6-1 I'll just go on.

"There's no need to think about it, thinking about it won't help you. You have to throw away thoughts about it and you'll be okay."

That sort of attitude is typical of the Latvian who admitted that he is no fan of training and has no intention of forging the type of long and dominant career of his next opponent.

"I don't like practising or spending a lot of hours on court, that's just not me," he added.

"I just want to win a Grand Slam, only one and I'll finish my career."

Don't know how he thinks to win a GS without spending lots of hours practising..

hard to believe Gulbis has any fans because of his tennis. must be because of his looks.

I always thought people were too harsh on him for his family having money.

Thanks for proving me wrong! You deserve all the criticism you get.

Re: Gulbis: I don't like to practice

He does say he practices 5/6 hours a day though. Just he doesn't enjoy drills and stuff. He claims that competing is what makes him play tennis. This is taken a little out of context to what he was talking about. He was saying about different people's training.

He'll probably go out cruising for hookers and blow tonite.

Re: Gulbis: I don't like to practice

Okay, so he says that he doesn't live for practicing. Big deal.

Just don't tell me that there's actually anyone who thinks he doesn't practice a whole lot even though he's not crazy about it.

As for his slam ambitions, it's good to see that he thinks he has it in him to win one.

Being able to take bad losses in your stride is good as well. I myself like the philosophy that you can learn something from every match you play, but I don't know his take on that. He strikes me as the sort of guy who believes it's just all up to him putting it together in every match, and if it doesn't work he just failed to execute his gameplan, and hopes to do just that next time. That's just an initial feeling, though. I haven't looked deep into the role his coach plays with him.

Re: Gulbis: I don't like to practice

when you spend 30+ hours a week (for years) practising i doubt many people would enjoy it either... its work for them, but it has to be done.

Re: Gulbis: I don't like to practice

Federer said many times in his youth he didn't like to practice and that he didn't take practices seriously because he just couldn't get motivated enough for them. He defined himself as a 'match player'.

Not caring about practices = the recipe for GOATness.

Your heard it here first, kids.

Re: Gulbis: I don't like to practice

The grand slam quote is taken out of context. It was one of his sarcastic jokes. He said something along the lines of “If I win a Grand Slam, I’d stop tomorrow”. “Really?” “Nah, I’d then go and win a 250, then I’d stop…”

If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.
