Söderling was pretty solid in the first set, even though De Bakker had some chances to break. I can't, however, remember the last time Robin struggled so much with his first serve as in this second set. At one point when he was up 4/0 his 1st serve % was below 10 ... good thing for him he has a reliable second delivery. Not a single doublefault in the second set.
De Bakker raised his leve after he avoided the bagel, and won three games on the trot. Robin continued to have problems with his serve, but got the job done with one break to spare. Daring ace on the second serve from Robin as he served out the match. Thiemo quite simply got going too late.
All in all, a great week for both guys. I definetely hope to see Thiemo play Jo again in Rome.
I was there.
Soderling was cruising for most of the match, De Bakker had not many chances. Robin lost his form a couple of games in the second set but I knew he would pass easily.
I think Nando will have a difficult final for sure.
