Monte Carlo R1: Gulbis df Chuindinelli 6-3, 6-2

5 Aces and no double faults pretty impressive from Ernests! Kill Wawrinka or Hanescu Hehe

Good. But cannot read too much into this. Chiudinelli hardly ever plays on clay, and his last clay court win was in 2006.

Much tougher task awaits in R2. Although both Stan and Victor must be tired after their long in week in Morocco.

Hopefully! I didn't know Chewy was much of a clay courter but thanks for the tip off!

Nice win for Ernests! Hope he can beat Stan/Victor and play Novak in R3!

No WC and ranking wasn't good enough for the main draw at the entry time.. Guess he didn't want to fool with the qualies. He has been in Spain practicing on clay for several weeks.

Thanks. I thought that he hadn't wanted to participate in the qualies after triumph in Delray Beach. It was a huge boost for his self-confidence. A loss in the qualies would have destroyed it He should be prepared well for the clay court season then, and the draw in Monte Carlo is favorable. I hope he'll play against D'Joke in the 3rd round. It should be an answer what he's worth on clay this year

Gulbis I'm curious to see how he matches up with Wawrinka on clay.
