Roddick and Berdych in the finals prove this. Djokovic and Murray being UTTER CRAP!!.. Del Potro still out on injury reserves constantly.. Federer constantly going out to clowns in tournaments not called Grand Slams.. And nadal nowhere near what he was pre-injury..

Are we going back to the early 00s here? with guys like Gaudio or Johannson type players winning slams? It may be turning out that way eventually

Federer - Doesn't give a shit
Djokovic - Playing like utter shit
Murray - Mentality is fucked up
Nadal - Not much confidence
Del Potro - Injured
Davydenko - Injured
Soderling - Fucking up in big matches

But all credit to Roddick for taking advantage in IW and Miami

I thought you were a Sampras fan. This is the way most of the 90s were. Everyone has dips in form, everyone has dips in confidence. The exceptional consistency of the top players week in and week out is not the norm. Would you like to put money on someone outside the top 8 winning one of the remaining slams this year? I wouldn't.

Rest assured, if it were Federer and Nadal in the final having beaten Murray and Djokovic in the semis, that would be a sign of how weak this era is below the top players; it's a win-win situation for SetSampras, as almost every conceivable result in any tournament can be used negatively depending on which philosophy you're adopting this week.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Yesterday Nadal lost in the semis and people were saying that he should retire

Now because neither of the top five won IW or Miami we have to conclude that the top 5 is in shambles.

What's wrong with this forum?

Is stupid and ridiculous to get angry. I PRAISE Roddick and Berdych because FINALLY, it doesn't seem to so damn Top Heavy outside of slams.

What the Top 6 do is their damn fault, injuries excluded. If they decide to screw up, they have to fix it, because the other players aren't going to stand having a player with no heart in it winning a title they think is meaningless, ala Federer.

We finally don't have to see the same players in the finals every single time. I praise the shift, and hope it gives fruit to new things to come.

I agree it's "good for the game" to see someone else other than the Top 5 in the finals but it is also getting less interesting and funny.

Re: Top 5-6 is just in shambles. Just terrible currently.. Bottom line

Apparently nuance is impossible. The top players not winning everything can be good or bad, depending on if their level dropped or if everyone else's got better. The former is bad for the game while the latter is good. In the current situation, it does seem like the top has started to play worse. The top 4 are clearly playing worse, and guys like Ljubucic, Fererro, and Youzny have always been almost top players but until recently that hasn't been enough. If Berdych can get it together and Soderling can stop being so streaky it might start to trend towards better play outside the top. Still, this is the first time I have to agree with SetSampras

Aother desperate mtfer trying to let there voice be heard by creating a thread about it in GM while there are countless others like this.

The whole field right now is justthe best it's ever been. Guy's outside the top 20 can beat the greatest of all time. Anyone in the top 20 has the ability to make a major final

Mug era for sure. And warm regards. What surprises me is that you're surprised enough to create a new thread for something like this. All tennis players are useless nowadays don't you know? Federer just flukes his way through a mug era. Not even top 100 of all time. Maybe about 5004th best of all time, maybe less. Probably less. Sampras number 1 no contest.

warm regards...

6-2, 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-0 (and not even finals).

Who's the greatest of all time in this era? Nadal? Perhaps. Federer? No way. He only wins when his opponents are injured and flukes his way through it all. Look at his head to head record with Nadal - he is owned badly mate. Not even close to being top 100 of all time. As I said, probably inside top 10,000, but that's about it.

Any decent tennis critic or fan will know what I'm talking about. If you watched tennis for 60 years, you'll know that McEnroe, Borg, Connors, Laver etc were the GOATs. Wake up guys!

warm regards...

6-2, 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-0 (and not even finals).

Ha....flukes his way to 17 slams....that's classic.

Why does someone always feel the need to point out how weak an era is/was or say it is top heavy or bottom heavy. None of that shit matters...there is an explanation for every win or loss by a player but very few on here can actually understand that.

You do realize the only reason Rafa has that H2H record on Fed is because Federer makes all the GS finals. Rafa only makes few of them. This would yield a good H2H record for anybody in Rafa's situation. You can tell me how many GS finals Federer has been in compared to Nadal if you'd like.
