He seems to be doing fine though

He is in the semis of both singles and doubles

Making as many $$$ as possible before his knees inevitably explode

Either that or he's gunning for the world no. 1 doubles ranking.

Juan Martin Del Potro

David Ferrer - Tommy Haas - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Andy Roddick - Juan Carlos Ferrero - Mardy Fish

I think he's just helping his partner earn more money, and at the same time improve his net game.

I was going to say that M.Lopez must see dollar signs when Nadal agrees to play doubles. Guys with Lopez's kind of ranking (never been in the top 100 of singles) would be thrilled to play doubles with any top 20 star, let alone Rafa.

Lopez has become Rafa's regular practise partner in Mallorca, and a good friend. I doubt Rafa extends any more pressure on his knees playing doubles for an hour or so than he does with his intense practise sessions.

Still. There's no excuse for any doubles playing during the clay season, Rafito. You'll have enough match time under your belt.

I hope it stops at Miami. He needs the rest going into Monte carlo and beyond.

Re: Nadal will play doubles in Miami too (with Marc Lopez)

playing the two events back to back in two HC tournaments isn't exactly Rafa's brightest idea, he doesn't really need much match practice in Miami because it's the last HC event till the US Open series

I just hope he doesn't get injured again for what is the most important part of the season for him, Nole and Muzza aren't playing well now and it's his chance to get back the #2 and take an assault for the #1 depending on results, he really needs to be careful

He said he's playing doubles instead of intensive practise sessions

Re: Nadal will play doubles in Miami too (with Marc Lopez)

Rafa will win both events in IW, he should just relax and take it easy in Miami, he doesn't defend much points there, so what's the point of doing either intensive practise sessions or playing doubles?

I kinda understand his IW choice because he needed match practice and time on court, but why doing it as well in Miami? doesn't make sense with clay season around the corner IMO

affirmative. its the massive, intense match play and practice on hard courts in such a short period of time that can lead to injury.

its just too much in such a short period of time for somebody who really does have chronic knee issues now.

Re: Nadal will play doubles in Miami too (with Marc Lopez)

As long as there will be no 'too many HC tournaments' and 'the season is too long'-complaints following in due course of 2010, I am okay with it all.
