Rotterdam R2: Davydenko def. Baghdatis 6-3 6-2

Good win for Davy. Some bad UE's near the net with his FH but overall a HQ game.

Roger Federer | Benoît Paire| Stanislas Wawrinka | Nick Kyrgios

Awesome hitting from Davydenko.
Seems Davydenko is starting add the slice and the dropshot to his game. His slice is already better than Nadal's.

Players who make me...
:Federer - Davydenko - FitDave - Cilic
:Safin - Monfils - Non-Slam Federer.
:Nadal - Roddick - Murray

really? i haven't seen him play in this tournnament but i've noticed that in the past few months he has started to go to the net every now and then, something which used to be a total rarity in him during most of his career.

kolya is an awesome baseline hitter and it's great to hear that he might start to be become something close to an all-round player, as people say.

Superb stuff from Davy. Some slight concentration wobbles, but always considerably the stronger player.

Baggy did nothing wrong, he's simply not got the game to overpower Davy on mid-midfast Deco, and defensively he's not able to cope when Davy really steps it up - no disgrace there, on a hard court only Murray or Djokovic could execute a mainly defensive gameplan against a Davy on this form, and even they'd be in trouble.

Very good match from Davydenko, totally outclassed Baggy!

Re: Rotterdam R2: Davydenko def. Baghdatis 6-3 6-2

I wonder what the right strategy is against Davy these days? Hit hard to the middle - take away the angles? :/

He's like fine wine this Davydenko. I saw him live last year and my god that ball was pacy and so freaking accurate. He's a joy to watch in this sort of mood.

I'm a big Baghdatis fan but he didn't play an awful match at all. Just outclassed.

JesusDavy for most part of the match. When this guy is on, no one can stop him these days.

Overpower him with early hitting or pure backcourt blasting :-) eg Blake, Cilic, Federer, Soderling. Less potent guys can also pull this off on the faster courts like Cincinatti, and obviously on grass.

I suppose you could also push down the centre and slice out wide on some of the low bounce indoors courts, as he does like a bit of pace to feed off (as long as it's not overwhelming), and a low flat ball gives him very small margins for error over the net. Youzhny did something like this to him in Valencia, which was playing very slow/low. Really frustrated Davy, he couldn't get his attacking game going at all.
