Is the Australian Open moving to China in 2016? Tradition of tennis coming to an end?

I read that the Australian Open could be moved to China in 2016. The organization and Goverment of Australia are planning to increase the size of the secondary courts between other improvements. I think is great to see many tournaments in Asia and a Master Series in Beijing ( I think that there should be a Master Series in Latin America too and more ATP tournaments in Africa too) but tennis has a tradition and it would be really important to keep it. Don`t you think that tennis will definitely decrease the amount of followers and their importance if they start breaking the tradition of it?

I would stop being a tennis fan if that happens, for tennis' sake.

This won't happen. The upgrade plans for Melbourne are meant to ensure its continuation there until at least 2036.

The ironic thing is that China missed the boat on this - I don't think Melbourne and the Australian Open have ever been as respected as one of the big four as it is now. Had they been sniffing around in the mid 80s they would have had much more of a chance.

China doesn't even have any good players. Doesn't deserve a slam till some Chinese men win a GS.

The ATP deserves a better class of player, and I'm gonna give it to 'em - Djoker

And they don`t deserve it even if they have a player like Federer. The tradition of tennis has already been too much tarnished.

Tennis is even that popular in China. They are trying to force their people to like it. What's more likely is an NBA team in Beijing.

Paradorn Srichaphan
Kei Nishikori, Donald Young, Somdev Devvarman, Dustin Brown, Steve Johnson, Yannick Maden
Robert Farah, Clement Reix, Alexander Dolgopolov, Nathan Thompson

Impossible. Where do you get this nonsense?

Tennis is not that popular in China. The sports that are popular in China are those sports that few others in the world plays, like ping pong. The Chinese audience have very limited understanding of the game, which is evident from the past events held in the country.

I'm not someone who would die without tradition, but this is plain absurd. 2016? I mean come on. Probably 2061 when the world is entirely different.

Tennis has Great Games & Great Personalities.

We also have Andy Murray.

I'm not going to bother my head about something which may or may not happen in 2016. Whether I get out of bed tomorrow is far more important!

This thread has been done many times and it's the same shit heard over again and no it's not getting moved any time soon.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
