Is 286 basically locked for Fed?

Would he have to have a comlplete meltdown not to break Sampras' record?

It is somewhat ironic that if Nadal plays well, Federer has a better chance of breaking this record.

Sampras had been heard saying that 14 GS was his biggest record. Some point last year he said that 286weeks was actually his best record. Lately, I believe he has changed to saying that having a winning H2H over his biggest rivals is his absolute biggest record .....

Nah it'll be his 6 years in a row as year end #1

This one is not that meaningful, Roger has also been number 1 in the world for 6 consecutive years, just not at end November one year, so what ? 286 weeks is maybe PS biggest record. Roger will push it beyond 300 IMO.

"I asked a bloke in the front row if he liked the serve-and-volley stuff," said Rafter. "He said he did but asked if he was going to get to see any rallies. 'Not today, mate,' I told him."

While SetSampras is undoubtedly a monumental tool, no need to bash Pete for it. He's been vary gracious about the record thing. After the loss of Wimbledon final, he said he has no doubt Fed will win more than 14 slams, as just one example.

Agree, Pete's been very graceful, given that he has set huge records thanks to big sacrifices and intense focus on his career. These records could have stand 30+ years, and 8 years into retirement he's on the verge of losing almost all his records because of... the GOAT. Not lucky on this one.

It's unfortunate that an internet message board poster can make a player look bad.

Paradorn Srichaphan
Kei Nishikori, Donald Young, Somdev Devvarman, Dustin Brown, Steve Johnson, Yannick Maden
Robert Farah, Clement Reix, Alexander Dolgopolov, Nathan Thompson

Maybe people are referring to the comments Sampras made before the exho against Safin last year?
