Poll: Which Grand Slam tennis television commentator is the best?

Dead Jolly is a veteran, commentates primarily on the Australian Open but also on the French Open. We down under are forced to put up with the old man calling most of the matches and all the finals.

Cron Smackenroe is one of the games greatest, he knows the sport the pressures and what players feel in grand slam matches. Simply has insight no one else does on the commentary teams. But a Dafidala Nutella bandwaggoner and annoyed me and many others when he patronised Federer with a hug after the 2008Wimbledon title was stolen from him.

Lorus Pecker is always pleasant to listen to, a good player in his prime who knows what it
takes to win grand slam matches.

Silly Iceburger adds statistical analysis to matches in a way not many others do.

Bim Fastways/FedEx Couriers is a bit annoying, the arrogance he talks with you'd think he won 27
slam titles. He is also not funny in the post match interviews on court. The drunk uninformed crowds will laugh at anything (see 1vacuum Joker BITCH 2007immiatations for proof).

Grim Shenman choked constantly on the biggest stage, but he knows about the conspiracy to
slow down Wimbledon grass and talks openly about it, a brave man challenging the establishment.

Ted Volley has already been mentioned, but hes so old I thought id put two of him in here.

Dyke L Deaf-felt Bitch is boring to listen to, and adds no real insight into the game of tennis or what it takes to win.

Carcus Fuckland is a solid commentator, never says much funny stuff but is interesting enough.

Dat Smash is a legend, a solid commentator. Never mind listening to him.

So who is the most informed, interesting and if possible funny tennis commentator at Grand Slams? They don't have to be English speaking.

Re: Poll: Which Grand Slam tennis television commentator is the best?

The GOOD: Johnny Mac, Brad Gilbert, Darren Cahill, Ted Robinson, Chris Fowler.

The BAD [very average]: Martina Navratilova, Cliff Drysdale, Patrick McEnroe.

... and the UGLY [the truly insufferable]: Dick Enberg, Mary Carillo, Justin Gimelstob, Mary Joe Fernandez.

Henri Leconte...
Joking aside I quite agree with your list, Valhalla. Nonetheless I wouldn't say Navratilova is bad - she provides some good insights from time to time.

Darren Cahill is the best IMO. I also like J McEnroe.

The worst, well, in Australia we have this guy called John Alexander, man he is awful.

Good insights, yes. But she can be such a motormouth - constant talk. Reminds me of JMac whose comments can be very interesting but he loves the sound of his own voice.

True. You'll always get some great insights from a champion of Martina's caliber and experience, but she's oftentimes too pedantic, and her monotone, colorless voice can be sleep-inducing.

Jim Courier is alright. I'd give him a solid B.
[and when asked about one of D. Safina's matches last year at the USO, he described it as "very sweaty"

Re: Poll: Which Grand Slam tennis television commentator is the best?

Just the sound of Andrew Castle makes me want to vomit. Henman is boring, but not annoying.

John McEnroe is by far the best. I also quite like Jo Durie. Most are pretty hopeless.

Novak Djokovic
Fernando Verdasco Richard Gasquet
Janko Tipsarevic

Jurgen Melzer
Gilles Simon David Nalbandian
Mikhail Youzhny

Robin Soderling
Viktor Troicki Fernando Gonzalez
Nikolay Davydenko

In Dutch, Theo Bakker. Doesn't talk too much, has a pleasant voice, is insightful. On the downside is a fedtard.
In English, Michael Stich. Doesn't talk too much, doesn't mind offending people, is insightful.

Thank you for not reporting my post.

Agree with Stich. When I've heard him on the BBC he's one of the very few who doesn't just talk crap or state the blindingly obvious.

Andrew Castle is about as bad as it's possible to be.
