Question Was Federer two points from a Non-calendar Grand Slam?

Is this true? For a non-calendar Grand Slam - being two points from winning all four slams in a row?

Had Federer put away Del Potro in the US Open final...

...Roger would have joined the very elite group of players who have held all 4 slam titles at once... He might not get that chance again.

Yep. Four slams without a fully fit Rafa. For me, underlines how important Rafa is to the game. Without him Roger's pretty much a shoe-in every time.

Yes he was up 5-4 15*-30 in the 4th set. Delpo was serving though. Anyway Delpo won the next 3 points cleanly by pounding his forehand and pinning fed back.

There's a saying here "if my grandmother had a dick, she would by my grandfather". Hope the meaninglessness of the what if scenarios is not lost in translation.

Re: Had Federer put away Del Potro in the US Open final...

I think it would be somewhat absurd for us as fans to bemoan that loss, I wouldn't expect a wave of sympathy from other MTF posters and I doubt Federer is going to be too eaten up about it right now.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

ROFL

That might just be the ONLY thing that Federer won't accomplish in his career.

I'm sure he's not losing too much sleep over it. This is just icing on the cake at this point.

Fed is holding 3/4 slams and 4/4 slam finals. +2 MS and like 4 MS SF.

Hey he can't win always. Even GodFed gotta lose from time to time.
The positive side of that loss is the fact that Nadull fanboys can't say anymore that their boy was the only one to defeat Roger in a GS final. They were really annoying. Not so much nowadays, since their "muchacho" can't win anymore any tournament and probably never will. (At least not another GS)

It's really awful. He was one decent set of serving away from the AO last year and choked away that 2nd set in New York. He really was thisclose to getting CYGS. Oh well... Just shows you how tough it is, even the GOAT comes up short.

a totally irrelevant list of players I like, hate and want to have a beer with, all written in cute colors
