Question Players smelling/blowing on their fingers!

Why do the majority of players smell and/or blow on their fingers before almost every point? I play tennis and do not understand the need to do this. Is it like smelling your armpits?

exactly... not really to do with getting hot or in pain... you either wipe it on your shorts/shirt/towel or blow on it if you need to do so quickly...

I thought it was just a meaniless habit to make you feel more 'ready' for the point.

Pete Sampras - no yelling, no bad language, no fooling around, no showmanship, no media obsession, no nonsense. He just let his tennis do the talking. Enough said.

Almost, even though moving the strings after each point has it's uses, but there's no doubt that it's natural to do so.

Re: Players smelling/blowing on their fingers!

It's just to dry your fingers if your hand is sweaty. Some players make that an habit

Re: Players smelling/blowing on their fingers!

For some, it's to dry their hands of sweat and make sure they have good grip on the racquet handle. Others are just accustomed to do it over and over again, like Jelena.Never get tired of it.
