Nadal drops to #4 after AO & welcome Cilic to the top 10!

The title says it all. Nadal will drop behind Djokovic and Murray regardless of the result and Cilic will enter the top 10 at #10 after AO2010.

I think in current setups is important to be a Top 8 player. Being No. 10 opens a comfortless possibility to play these guys (Djokovic, Murray, Del Potro, Nadal) in last 16 of Masters or GS tournaments.

i feel abit for nadal, this time last year it looked like he would rule the game for the next couple of years. just shows you how things change so quickly in tennis.

it's a shame Nadal's ranking is being affected by his injuries not a fan of him, but it's a shame this is happening

It is inevitable for Nadal, given his style of play. The guy can't have a healthy career, never mind a long one.

8th day of July 2012: 7-time Wimbledon champion!

Once upon a time there was a myth about strong and weak eras. On this glorious day the clownery was eventually unmasked: 30 y.o. past-prime daddy Fed became #1 once again in the supposed strong "Spartan" era with his rivals at their peak.
And they all lived happily ever after.
Long live King Federer!

It's not though. I mean, in this case. Unless you assume he would have came back from 0-2 vs Murray had he not injured himself.

Not happy with this. Stay out of Fed's draw for the French please Rafa.

If Rafa can recover most of his points from here to Wimbledon (doubt he compares to last year) then he is well poised to skyrocket from the French onwards, health permitting. I can see him becoming a serious threat again sometime this year.

Of course he will become a serious threat again. It perplexes me how still people think Nadal is done.

Novak Djokovic nº1!

I don't think he is done at all. But HC have never been his thing. Just beaten a couple of top 10 players at HC slams during his ENTIRE career. So nobody should have expected him to win the HC tournaments he's played since his comeback in Montreal. He really just should focus on clay and grass.

Because some people round here cannot see past the immediate.

They see what's happening NOW and they project that into the distant future - they seem to forget that tennis is always changing, that there are high points and low points for every player and they don't last forever.

This time last year, Federer was widely thought to be on the slide, he was permanently dismissed as a contender for the French Open and people even doubted he would make it to 15 slams. Well we saw how that worked out.

People thought that Nadal would ride high on the top of the rankings for a long time once he got there...well we saw how that worked out - he'll likely be #5 by the time the French rolls around.

I could go on.

He has beaten Federer, the GOAT, on HC in a Slam final last year (and doesn't have a negative record against him on HC overall) so of course people were expecting Nadal to be successfull on that surface. Things like "HC has never been his thing" are just ridiculous.

Cilic deserves to be in the top 10, and he's going to go higher.

Rafa needs to stop playing so much and get himself together. His retirement against Murray was the definition of lame.

Personally, I think it's better forhim to play them in early rounds while he's still rested than at semis
