AO Rd4 (3)Djokovic def. Kubot 6-1 6-2 7-5

Djokovic played well to advance to the quarter-finals.

Kurbot challenged him in the last set well.

Djokovic had far more winners than unforced errors.

Now Djokovic plays the winner of Tsonga and Almagro! Should be a more interesting match, especially if he has the chance to play Tsonga.

Stats:

Djokovic \ Kubot
Aces 11 \ 4
Winners 49 \ 23
Double Faults 1 \ 4
Unforced Errors 17 \ 25

Kubot coming to the net a lot more in the third set gave him a little bit to think about, but a pretty solid performance by Novak. Good winner to UE ratio.

Novak Djokovic
Fernando Verdasco Richard Gasquet
Janko Tipsarevic

Jurgen Melzer
Gilles Simon David Nalbandian
Mikhail Youzhny

Robin Soderling
Viktor Troicki Fernando Gonzalez
Nikolay Davydenko

Re: AO Rd4 (3)Djokovic def. Kurbot 6-1 6-2 7-5

Kubot played his solid serve and volley tennis only in the third set However he made too many double-faults in the most important moments (always when Djokovic had a bp) and served only 4 aces. Despite everything reaching 4-th round of Grand Slam is very big achievement for him He should be 65-70 ATP right now

Djokovic performance was very high. Many winners and great serving.

Kubot chose wrong tactics for this match. What did he think, that he could outplay D'Joke from the baseline He should have played his normal tennis - a lot attacking to the net.

It's KUBOT not KURBOT. Ditch the R.

From what I saw, Djokovic was solid. I expected him to get tight if Kubot would put pressure on him and that he did in the third. Djokovic really has to work on his forehand IMO, sometimes he hits it as hard as he can and it ends up being shorter than Nadal's defensive forehands. Doesn't hit through it enough.

All said, good work Nole and hope to see you playing Fed in the SF!

Only Del Potro can take him out before the semis, and he won't. Nadal is winning the AO, bet your house on it.

Kubot's play reminded me of Nadal for some reason.

You are right. He should have played serve and volley from the beginning, not only in the third

The only explanation of this I think, his coach would have thought: try to play as long as it possible because the longer D'Joke plays, the more he's tired in these conditions. But on the other hand D'Joke is able to regroup after 20-30 minutes of poor play. He's a great fighter and wouldn't stand tough conditions playing long match only against players on a similar level to his like last year against Roddick
