Just the four sets and 2.5 hours today for Juan, so that's an improvement

Lucky - Mayer should really have had that 4th set. Even had 2bps in the last game, one a simple volley.

Re: AO R3: Del Po barely beats Mayer 6-3 0-6 6-4 7-5

Del Potro was tired and trying to win points with one or two shots instead of his usual powerful but patient play. It worked, he won, but he made a lot of unforced errors.

His serve helped him a lot.

He is saying on the espn latin america interview that he is super tired, and that both Cilic and Wawrinka and super tough, so he does not prefer to play one over the other.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.

Re: AO R3: Del Po barely beats Mayer 6-3 0-6 6-4 7-5

this time he DOES look tired, this match was pretty damn difficult even if he won in 4, got his serve broken left and right but at the end it was what kept him on the match

He can't win the tournament playing like this and either Cilic or Stan will give him a run for his money

Rafael "The Matador of Spin" Nadal
Roger “The Magician of Precision” Federer
Del Potro, Ferrer, Haas, Zeballos

Wawrinka would be much better for him in current condition - far easier to fire serves past him than Cilic.

Re: AO R3: Del Po barely beats Mayer 6-3 0-6 6-4 7-5

I rate Wawrinka higher than Cilic, Wawrinka is great and I would expect him to beat Del Potro.

Wawrinka can over rally Del Potro with that great backhand of his, Cilic, I don´t think so. Cilic was hideous against Tomic.

Perhaps the only reason why Del Potro won the US Open is that the only 5 sets match he had to play was the last one he had to play. The other top players, except Djoko, seem much fitter.

Pathetic would too kind a word for Pot Smoke's performance today.
An atp tour meeting should be held right away to take away that USO title from him and he should be forbidden from playing professional tennis for one year under the 'being baggeled by a tour clown' treaty.

Impressive from Mayer, good fight from Del Potro. This surface really should suit Del Potro if he can recover from these lengthy matches and find some form. Looking forward to a potential match against Cilic.

This is the end of the road for Del Potro. Serious work to do in the fitness department... (and also in the "not making matches longer than necessary" department)

happy del potro pulled out the win, hes not playing like the champion but hes winning. still these sets he is donating in matches must stop, or he will pay for it later on, or even in his next match.
