choke job of century! But Roger came through and played as well as he could in the 4th set. I know there are a lot of haters in this forum but you'd agree as tennis fans that those blockbuster matches are worth seeing so yes. let's hope Roger and Nikolai meet. It's going to be a great match.

Oh Jeez. There were so many opportunities for Andreev in this one. It was physically painful watching each one slip away from him.

These matches are the worst, should've been 5 sets if it wasn't for the choker.

And then you mentally check out completely in the fourth set, very disappointing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but of the top 8 guys, didn't Rogie have the highest ranked 1st round opponent at no. 37?

Roger looked old, tired and soft for most of the match. Pick it up Rog.

Ludicrous choking. Andreev serving for the 3rd set, had 30-0, and Fed pinged one off the netcord. Although he had setpoints after that, he visible deflated. Gave the break away, completely imploded in the tiebreak, and bagelled in the final set. Pathetic.

I don't think Andreev choked. Fed just hung in there, dug deep into his reserves at the end of that 3rd set and won. He just put more balls in play and forced Andreev to make the error. Plus he made adjustments with the bh slice return of serve.

In soccer/football this are the matches which decides whether or not you'll gonna be champion or not. Playing like shit for some long time and still scraping through.

Hope this is a wake up call for Roger though. Gotta give credit to Igor too for playing really well for 3 sets.

Re: AO R1: Federer def Andreev 4-6 6-2 7-6(2) 6-0

The recipe to beat Andreev:

1. Give him the first set.
2. Since he'll check out in the 2nd, give him a couple of breaks in the third.
3. Let him have 5 or more set points. .... You win the game as he chokes everytime. Why change anything?

Set points for Andreev on serve in the 3rd set and from then on it was all one-way traffic.
