Australian Open QR2: Niland d. Witten 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Sorensen d. Yani 6-4, 3-6, 6-3

Great comeback for Niland against a player ranked 125 places above him and who reached the 3rd round in his last slam.

Niland will play Hocevar for a place in the main draw.

Sorensen will play Daniel King-Turner. Great chance for both

Any reason of why Niland is playing good?

Re: Australian Open QR2: C. Niland d. J. Witten 2-6, 6-1, 6-4

Dunno. He went to Florida at the end of last season to play a few mug futures events to boost his ranking so he'd make the cut for qualifying. He won one title and reached the final in another. Won 10 matches in 3 weeks. Must've given him a confidence boost despite the low level of competition. They say winning is a habit.

I haven't read anything about a change of coach or racket or anything like that

Go Conor.

The real reason behind Conor's recent better form is obviously High Performance Coaching and Scientific Research.

I watched on live scores, even just by watching the scores I had faith in him,

Tommy Robredo
Tursunov Wawrinka Berankis Gasquet Dimitrov Korolev McGee

Once again, I think that Sorensen has a better chance than Niland, but Hocevar is much easier for Conor to beat than Darcis was. Would be great to see 2 irish guys in a grand slam (am I right in saying since Sean Sorensen in Wimbledon in like 1980?)

IMO Niland and Soerensen should qualify, King-Turner is a futures player, Hocevar can be an UE machine sometimes, c'mon Irish lads

Frooty, Ireland also had Matt Doyle in the 80s who played in GS main draws (although was born and bred in california) he would gave been the last Irish man in a GS main draw but I'm not sure which year it was.

Back to Oz, can't believe that both the guys came through the 2nd rounds. Don't want to hope for too much but even 1 out of 2 would be amazing. Can't believe King-Turner beat Kim tho.

.
Oz Open 1985 was the last year Doyle played in a GS.

He reached R16 in US Open in 1882. Current vice-President of the ATP. Should be able to swing some wild cards for the guys if they can boost their rankings this year.

He and Sorensen both played Wimbledon in 1980 but I think Doyle was still officially a yank at that stage...
