Expected, but still good news for A-Rod. His serve gives him an advantage in coming back from layoffs because he can generally beat most players with only his serve....then he can find his way back into form from the baseline more at his own leisure and comfort.

Re: Brisbane R2: Roddick d. Ball 7-6 6-3

was going to be close as service breaks would be at a minium in this one. roddick did what was needed in the 1st set breaker and got that singular break in the 2nd, that was enough against ball today.

roddick isn't upto standard yet, but i think he will get there by the oz open.

Good effort by Ball but all it takes is one break!
Hope Andy goes all the way and wins the title here

Ball's second serve is one of the best if not the best i've ever seen.

Good job Andy!

once Duck saved the set point it was over, the TB was very very one-sided though Ball did a great job saving 3 BPs in his last service game in that set

Rafael "The Matador of Spin" Nadal
Roger “The Magician of Precision” Federer
Del Potro, Ferrer, Haas, Zeballos

Was at the game, Ball obviously had the crowd behind him which gave him an advantage, but Roddick did what he needed to win. Ball has potential, his serve and volleying skills are exceptional, I hope he keeps advancing his game.

Impressive serving from Roddick.
Hope Ball can stay fit because apart from being headline writers' boon he has an entertaining attacking game and is undoubtedly a better prospect than Gooch.

I didn't see the whole match but I agree, Ball's second delivery was incredible!! Him and Stosur (Australia's top ranked female) seem to have the best second serves going around.

I hope he cracks the top 100 soon, he definitely seems capable of it.

Re: Brisbane R2: Roddick d. Ball 7-6 6-3

Ball played exceptionally well at times today, who knows how high he can go if he keeps improving. Excellent serve and brilliant volleying skills, went for a bit too much sometimes off the forehand side, but it is also a big weapon.

Always fancied Roddick to dig it out though, impressive enough to do it in straight sets too.
