What is the ultimate field of the Ideal Masters Cup of all times?

Pick the best 8 players in the world at their prime

who would them be?

my list:

Rod Laver
Federer
Sampras
Agassi
Nadal
Lendl
Connors
Mcenroe

that could be like the ultimate "Finals" draw, .. im sure there will be differences among other posters after the top 4..(nadal, becker, connors, mcenroe)..

this is off season material but offseason ends on jan 18th..

what is your list?? discuss

Re: What is the ultimate field of the Ideal Masters Cup of all times?

I've only followed tennis from the late nineties onwards, hence my ommission of all players before that time.

Federer
Sampras
Nadal
Agassi
Rafter
Safin
Kafelnikov
Nalbandian (the opening post said at their peak)

Alt: Hewitt Roddick

I know Hewitt and Roddick have had significantly better careers than Nalbandian, but I think that Nalbandian at his very best would beat both of them at their very best.

Good line-up, close between McEnroe and Connors. Glad to see respect for history!

Thanks. Guess it's a toss-up between McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, & Agassi for the 8th spot. And Budge.

Re: What is the ultimate field of the Ideal Masters Cup of all times?

Of course, the Masters has usually been played on a fast indoor court, in which case, we could pick the 8 best indoor players - which would be along the lines of Laver, Rosewall, Gonzales, Lendl, McEnroe, Sampras, Becker, Connors.
