No real mental lapses this time! Maybe a few lazy points, but Gulbis definitely showed his potential. Great lobs and dropshots, and even served 4 aces in a row to win a game. Well, Montanes wasn't anything spectacular today, so perhaps this will all end in another 2nd round loss.
If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.
Ernests was pretty much untouchable on serve all throghout the match, save for a time deep in the second set when he got down 0/30, but responded with four good points. He kept up his aggression and found his spots well from both wings, combined with some nice dropshots and ventures up to the net.
He will get to play the role of the aggressor in his next match as well against Hernandez or Seppi. Can he keep this level for a couple of matches ahead?
Impressive really, the way he held his head together when he was in danger of being broken at the end of the second set. A lot of times last year he'd have gotten broken, lost the set and the match with it. I hope this was not just a one time thing.
I really want to see him play against Federer but the second round will be difficult
