Thumbs up Tennis Ukraine - future estimation for Dolgopolov???

As a matter of fact, Ukraine soon might become a significant point on the ATP tennis map of the world. The guys are crazy, talented and... relatively young. They are very nice, but charismatic boys that tennis needs! Let's check how they're doing in the rankings and what they have achieved this season.

58. Sergiy Stakhovsky (1986) - ATP title: St. Petersburg, ATP QF: Doha, Zagreb, Moscow, Challenger final: Mons, Challenger semifinal: Trnava

120. Illya Marchenko (1987) - ATP semifinal: Moscow, Challenger title: Istanbul, Challenger finals: Penza, Astana, Challenger semifinals: Fergana, Mons

136. Oleksandr Dolgopolov Jr. (1988) - Challenger titles: Orbetello, Como, Trnava, Challenger semifinals: Poznan, San Marino, Tashkent

187. Ivan Sergeyev (1988) - Challenger title: Almaty, Challenger final: Karshi

They all have progressed and in 2010 maybe we'll see four Ukrainian players in the top 100?

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Stakhovsky and Marchenko aren't good enough to win big, dunno the other two. But I doubt that one of these guys will end up in the top 50 next season, their only hope is Stakhovsky.

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Tennis is about the late blooming these days, so I assume players born in 1988 could have not exposed their real abilities yet. Anyway, I checked the rank progress for the mentioned guys. Since Stakhovsky came back after a surgery he's slowly living up to the expectations. The rest is slowly joining. Dolgopolov's career also was halted with the elbow problems. This guy is a true talent IMO.

Stakhovsky - 2007: 262, 2008: 74, 2009: 58 (with career high 54 two weeks ago)

Marchenko - 2007: 510, 2008: 222, 2009: 120

Dolgopolov - 2008: 309, 2009: 136

Sergeyev - 2006: 768, 2007: 302, 2008: 374, 2009: 187

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Marchenko has improved imo. He isn't as bad as he was against GBR in Davis Cup.

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Stachowsky and only Stachowsky can play well here, no Dolgo, Marchenko or this fourth guy.

Worrying that Dologpolov has already chosen the path of a fixer.

Didn't stop Davy though I guess

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Sorry, Nathi, but I saw 3/4 out of them (all except Sergeev) and they are mugs. Stakhovsky and Dolgopolov have the potential to spend some weeks within Top50. Marchenko maybe will enter Top100 one day and should be happy with this.

Re: Tennis Ukraine

I suppose it's isn't bad for a country to have 4 players in the top 100 at the same time so I hope it will happen

Apart from Medvedev who was Russian and Davydenko who is Ukrainian but plays for Russia they were a blank place on the ATP map. And now this possibility... I just found it curious Serbia also appeared out of nowhere with Djoko, Troicki, Tipsa and Bozo...
but thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Do anyone of them has a different game? For example: Zeballos ( a new top50) has good drop shots, Stakhovskyi has a good serve. They can add some value to top 100 maybe if they have, or perhaps only put Ukraine into DC.

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Dolgo has great dropshots and some hilarious shots too when he reaches for the balls he barely can get - and mind he can still win a point

Re: Tennis Ukraine

Dolgo's a cool player to watch and I'd love to see him do well. Top 100? Yeah, could be done but I doubt he can make top 50. Hope he proves me wrong.

Totally off topic but Nathii, what do you make of Janowicz? I saw him and he looked excellent.

I think that anyone would look excellent against Daniel Evans.
