Re: Tennis Ukraine - future estimation for Dolgopolov???

I still say top 20-25 consistently for Dolgo. With a high of around 12. Maybe 14-22 consistently. I don't think he can go further than that. But he has really come around in ATPs of late, I'm very impressed. He's matured on court quite a lot.

This Dolgo has weird looking shots and an even weirder serve but I kind of liked them the one time I've seen him play.

He will probably get to top 50 after RG. Good for him.

Re: Tennis Ukraine - future estimation for Dolgopolov???

At a youthful looking 21, Dolgopolov is way too young to put a cap on how far he'll progress. He probably hasn't stopped growing for a start. He's not that built. Maybe he'll stay that way, but maybe not, and who knows if it would help his game.

What we do know is that his progress up the rankings has been steady.

Anyone checking out the end of the year rankings in 09 could see he was the youngest player who was going to break through this year, as he was one of the fastest and youngest rising players in the top 200, if not fastest and youngest.

But he's still outdoing expectations a bit, and at a major, which is the right place to do it.

Re: Tennis Ukraine - future estimation for Dolgopolov???

Since June 21 the following players among top-100 will have the new best rankings in their tennis career:
No. 43 Dolgopolov Jr, Oleksandr (UKR) 996
No. 47 Stakhovsky, Sergey (UKR) 935
No. 54 Giraldo, Santiago (COL) 823
No. 74 Marchenko, Illya (UKR) 672
No. 78 Pere, Riba (ESP) 654
Nice to see 3 Ukrainians among 5 players with the best rankings

None of those youngsters played Wimbledon 2009. It means they have no ATP points to defend vs 2009... If they win a couple of matches, they are going to climb even higher in the rankings...

Re: Tennis Ukraine - future estimation for Dolgopolov???

Do you guys think Marchenko has what it takes to be a consistent top 50 guy? I'm not too sold on him, personally.

Also, while Dolgo has been one of my favorite players for a while now, I still think he's a bit overrated now. I don't see him as a top 10 player. He is definitely the best of the 3 Ukrainians, however.

Too bad about Sergiy today, but congrats on his 3rd ATP title in Holland last week. When he's on, he has a beautiful and effective game to watch.

Marchenko is great character and hard worker. His progress will be slower but steady. IMHO, finally he will be higher than Dolgo and Stakh. Dolgo is more talented player but bad personality. Stakh is a good man and player of his mood

Top 10 or better. Dolgo is now at #43 and may go higher into 30s after Wimbledon. Found this good read about his progress ...
