Peru's tennis player Luis Horna announces his retirement

Horna announced in tears his retirement from tennis.

Luis announced he will retire from professional tennis after the "Challenger of Lima", beggining this coming weekend.

"I've decided to leave professional tennis after the Challenger of Lima," were the first words Horna said at a press conference he called to announce his future at professional tennis and Davis Cup.

"Lucho" was away from courts during several months this season due to a serie of injuries. Recently he had suggested the possibility to going on some more years, but he seemed to need some break.

"I don't say no to Davis Cup. I could be in the future in the team," said Horna, when asked about it, although he didn't specify if his comeback would be as a player or as captain in the national team, which main goal for next year is to get back to Group 1 of the American Zone.

He added that the best moment in his career was at Davis Cup with the Peruvian team. "It was when we took Peru to the World Group," he added.

Horna said that moment was even above the one he lived last year when he won at doubles at Roland Garros.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I always liked Horna. I respect a player who comes from a non-tradional tennis nation. He was a Davis Cup warrior. He was a one-surface guy but still a good player.

One less one-handed backhand on the tour
He was still not so old retiring 10 months short of turning 30.
Was the last guy to beat a slamless Fed...

Left-handedness is more than just a physical specialization. It's a state of mind.

Re: Luis (Lucho) Horna announces retirement

The writing was on the wall, when he at the RG qualies this year. He was unable to a break point against Cipolla.

Loved the DC and had 9 wins over players ranked in the top 10. At least he can finish at his home event.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I'll remember him as the last player to beat Federer before the Round of 32 in a Grand Slam event.
