6'1 is too small nowadays???

with players like Del Potro, Cilic, mon-fils all proving that big guys can also be great athletes

and with the huge serve advantage you can get with height

player like berdych, soderling- these were mentally weak players who played well on their day and were considered a "possible" danger

if they get the mental aspect right- are they just too "evolved" for the smallers guys who are only 5'11 to 6'1

the ideal height used to be 6'1

now that 6'4 guys are running like 6'1 guys, and that the bigger athelets are simply blowing the smaller guys off court- is it time to reevaluate what ideal height should be

Murray seems like he is the perfect size for the new generation

6'3
great first serve
amazing ground strokes
great athelete

is 6'3 the new ideal?

Re: 6'1 is too small nowadays???

I guess being 6'3" or a little over would be ideal now, but still atm i don't think it's a huge positive.

Another sign of the current decline of tennis.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Seven inches is perfectly acceptable for me, then again, probably we are talking about other things.

Re: 6'1 is too small nowadays???

No.

And 6'4'' guys aren't running like 6'1'' guys, just wait a few years and observe Del Potro and Cilic's movement becoming more and more laboured and how injury prone they become.

Why in some places feet is a unit of length? Centimeters are more accurate

stroke <- point <- game <- set <- MATCH -> round -> tournament -> season -> career
My favorite stats
Longest matches
Match points
Tie-breaks
Aces

Re: 6'1 is too small nowadays???

Federer is 6'1 and serves better than any of those guys.

Agreed that guys like Del Potro and Cilic will slow down as years go on....we'll see if they improve their serves enough to make up for it.

Roddick is more like 187 whilst I recon Djokovic is actually 6'3 today. And by the way 6'3 actually means 191cm

^i would just leave it at that, but i actually used a calculator before and had 191cm for 6'3 so i individually had to change the numbers because the atp site listed 6'3 as 190
