Shanghai R1: Stan Wawrinka def. Lukasz Kubot 2-6 7-6(5) 7-6(3)

VERY lucky escape here from 5-1 down in the 2nd set tiebreak.

Wonder if his injury is bad though. String of horrible attempted passing shots.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Congrats, Stani!

That 1-5 to 7-5 comeback in the second set TB, was that a case of Stan upping his level or did Kubot just choke horribly? (couldn't watch the match, just followed the SB)

Kubot began the match with sensational 4:0 and didn't lose a service game until the end (Wawa had break points in four games, twice in the first set).

Q-bot led 5:1 in the first tie-break, had also 3 bp's at 3:2 in the third, and later was two points away from victory at 6:5, was 2 points away from victory at 9 different stages of the match!

I think it's tough to say it was classical choke, Wawrinka at 1:5 in the tie-break, definitely played his best tennis of the match, also in his last service game was very aggressive and didn't give Kubot any chance to reach MP.

Yeah I saw that... some games took ages, lots of BPs.

Exactly one year ago (in Madrid), Wawrinka won almost identical match against Kohlschreiber, also was 2 points away from defeat in 2nd and 3rd set.

Re: Shanghai R1: Stan Wawrinka def. Lukasz Kubot 2-6 7-6(5) 7-6(3)

I think Q-bot made one serious mistake in this match - believed in triumph too early - at 5:1 in the tie-break. Just before the 1st serve he nodded, probably thought "6-2 7-6 over Wawrinka? Great! I didn't expect". His first serve was a metre beside the T, I suppose it was his worst 1st serve in the entire match. Obviously he still would have won but Wawrinka played then three consecutive points on the highest level.
