Why did it have to be an injured player he finally beat in the second round? I can't properly celebrate that

Whoa! Quarters, at frigging last!

The title of this thread should have "Gulbis finally wins 2 consecutive matches at ATP main draw level again".

Well done, Erno. The signs were there last week against Tsonga; he seems to be a more confident player these days. On the other hand, why did Monaco retire?

After one year and 2 and a half months the curse is broken.

Back-to-back wins. What a breakthrough.

Keep it up Ernie.

Re: TokyoR2: Gulbis def Monaco 6-3 4-1 (ret)

Nice for Gulbis to get another crack at big Jo.

But...

From the ATP site:

"Tsonga will next challenge Latvian qualifier Ernests Gulbis, who was leading Juan Monaco 6-3, 4-1 when the Argentine retired with a right hip injury after 61 minutes of play."

I don't like the sound of that at all. Hope it's nothing too serious.

Remember this match: it's the day that Jhoolbee's rise to GOATness starts.

Juan Martin Del Potro

David Ferrer - Tommy Haas - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Andy Roddick - Juan Carlos Ferrero - Mardy Fish
