Until people are capable of beating him regularly, or until he gets bored. That could take another ten years. At the moment I think only Nadal and Murray have positive H2H against him.

Re: How much longer do you think Federer will play on before retiring?

He said he wanted to play until the Olympic Games in London 2012 if I remember correctly... But I think once (if) he's reversed his H2H against his main rivals, say Murray and Rafa, and if he wins a couple more GS, he might wanna retire before...

Re: How much longer do you think Federer will play on before retiring?

Hrbaty has a 2-1 record against him and Simon is 2-0 as well

but I don't think losing more would male him retire if that was the case he would have called it quits in 2008

I'm thinking he might retire at the end of 2010. I'll be sad to see him go but he should go out while he's still on top.

Well that's why I used the term 'rivals'... Simon and Hrbaty are not big time slam contender last time I checked...

Re: How much longer do you think Federer will play on before retiring?

i really think fed will retire after 2012 us open, the only major thing he has yet to achieve is the Olympic gold medal in singles which he really wants to win, and with the tennis being held at Wimbledon, it is his best ever chance, and he would love to capitalise on that golden chance.

until then, it will be all about the slams for fed, and he would also like to win more matches against rafa and andy murray, especially against rafa in grand slam finals.

NOLE - RAFA - ROGER - DELPO - MUZZA - TSONGA

Also supporting: Rusty, Pics, Nalby, Nando, Baggy, Kei, Isner, Blake, Kolya, Berdych, Richie, Soderling, Gil

Ana - Wozzy - Vika - Kimmy - Makiri

Till 2012 for sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets positive balance with Nadal, who is very likely on a way down, so would be finally available for beating earlier then in finals. With Murray it's gonna be not easy, but not impossible. In any case I think he won't retire until understands that can't win one more Slam. And very probably this year to happen much later then 2012.

He'll win slams hitting the ball with his walking stick.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Re: How much longer do you think Federer will play on before retiring?

Federer has mentioned wanting his children to see him play. Obviously they wouldn't really remember much before the age of 4 or 5 so my guess is that he'll be around for at least 4 or 5 more years. However, if his health doesn't hold up or his ranking starts to slip for whatever reason, he might retire before then.
