Leconte-Motta 3rd round Roland-Garros 86 (Leconte's best year : he will be semifinalist in Roland-Garros and Wimbledon and quarterfinalist in the US Open ; as for Motta, he was a very average claycourt player) :
Leconte starts the match awfully and loses the first two sets 6-1 6-3.
In the 3rd set, he still plays very bad and eveybody thinks he's gonna lose.
His coach, Patrice Dominguez, tries to give him some advice, but Leconte is irritated and refuses to look at him anymore.
Then at 6-5 Motta 3rd set, Dominguez has an idea : he asks his neighbour to give a written word to Leconte via a ballboy.
The letter says : "We are together with you. We are confident. Get calm. Prepare your attacks more carefully and above all, play at the net. We kiss you"
Leconte gets up from his chair to go back to the court, walks to the place where Dominguez sits and tells him : "Couldn't you have said it before, bloody you !"
The result is : LEconte plays great, wins the 3rd set in the TB and the two final sets 6-0 6-0 !
He will reach the semifinal playing very great matches afterwards (losing to Pernfors, who was also a very funny guy)
For those of you who didn't know him, Leconte was an extremely talented player (some say he was more talented than Gasquet, and I do think so), but bad physical ... and with a very low IQ
I remember him in RG against a very average Australian Simon Youl (in 1988 : he was finalist that year) : he kept on going to the net with a slice to Youl's backhand ... and kept on being passed again and again never never changing tactics and going to his forehand. Finally he changed a little bit when he was led 2-1 and won in 5 sets ...
