Even though he was known to be an explosive player on court, and not just in terms of his game style, Peter was a genuine nice guy off-court. His career was plagued by injuries (ankle and knee), which prevented him from getting any higher than #72 in the rankings, and which have sidelined him for most of the last few years. Nevertheless, he had a surprise run into the 's-Hertogenbosch/Rosmalen final as a qualifier in 2007. Grass was clearly his favourite surface, as evidenced by the fact that his sole career title came in Newport, in 2000.
His last professional match was in July, in a Future in Germany, where he had to retire in the first round against Franjo Raspudic. He deserved a worthier exit off the stage, for sure.
Good luck in your post-pro tennis career, Peter
