Cinci rnd 1: Cilic schools Ferrero 6-3 6-4

Surprised none of JCF fangirls started this thread Should have been easier, sth like 63 61, but Marin relaxed in the end after whipping that pretender of a top 5 JCF. Keep going Marin

Very poor from Ferrero. Very poor. Should've won this, but a good result for the never to be top 10 player

Cilic always had this in control, got a bit sloppy at the end, but good result.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Ferrero just lacks anything remotely special these days.

Easier then expected, but Marin had to find some form sooner or later

The Cilic volleys need to improve big time, you'd think with Bob Brett as coach, that side of things will come together.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I agree, but that 1st set percentage should be the 1st thing he needs to improve. He needs more free points

It was good that Cilic was trying to hit some more kick serves when you are 195cm or however tall he is, use the height on serve to advantage.

He could learn a couple fo things from Ljubo and Mario when it comes to kickers, he still does not use his height to his advantage when it comes to serving...

Re: Cinci rnd 1: Cilic schools Ferrero 6-3 6-4

Cilic is slowly improving some of these aspects. He´s running forward better these days (he always moved well for his size in the baseline but looked turtle-like slow running forward in his early days as a pro), he´s hitting more different spots when serving and varying more the kind of serves he throws. His volleys also need big work, but at least he´s starting to come in a bit. Improvement in all this areas is reachable imo and if he achieves this, he will be a top 5 player one day, no probs

Awesome from Cilic but way too many errors from Ferrero, Cilic took him apart with his agression and ground game.
