Is it possible Nadal will never return to his previous level?

What do you think?

Is it quite possible that Nadal will never be able to get his momentum back and if he does be lucky enough to win Grand Slams or stay injury free for long enough to get on a roll?

One of the big things that allowed Federer to dominate for so long was momentum and staying injury free.

I know Nadal is still young, however not so much so in modern tennis terms. Will he ever be able to get his confidence back with so many great guys at the moment who can beat him ( and could even when he was healthy) like Del Pony, Fed, Murray, Djokovic, Nalbandian etc?

Me thinks it's going to be tough for him to get back to where he was, even if Fed retired.

He was moving absolutely fine this week, so it's likely he will.

He might not get back to the 2008-half of 2009 level, but he's going to be pretty darn close. Unlike a Sharapova, who's serve is completely down the drain, Nadal didn't seem to be much different than he was before injury.

I don't think so.

But I'm thinking it'll be a long while before he gets back to his comfort level.

its catching up to him, the style of play...now watch for injuries to happen more often and i predict he will be done by 25.

Nadal was only out one more tournament than all the top players, its not like hes been one year out of competition.

Sadly for us Nadal will be back to his pray for death days within a few months. Nadal only needs matches after having not played for a while.

Re: Is it possible Nadal will never return to his previous level?

Even in his first week back, Nadal is already almost at 'the previous level' now. Even if Nadal was in Championship form it is likely Del Potro would have taken him to a tie-breaker. So the first set was close to that form. Mentally his concentration isn't back yet, he pointed that out after the match, and often when concentration is down you do give your serve away early in the 2nd set after a tight 1st set and struggle to get back into the zone.

Based on the Del Potro match, Nadal is far ahead of the schedule I was expecting, I expected he'd take until the end of Cincy to reach this kind of form or at the latest maybe round 1 or 2 of the US Open. He may need a 4 or 5 setter to feel himself again mentally, so hopefully he gets that early in the US Open in case he has to play 4/5 sets in the Semis or Final.

Its really all mental now for Nadal, his movement is fine.

Re: Is it possible Nadal will never return to his previous level?

fast HCs are his worst surface so i dont think we'll find out too much even from the US OPEN

although if he wins the US OPEN then you know he's back to his best

Mac never won a slam after 84

i hope 2008 (+09AO) wasn't Nadal's 1984

God is Love. To know Love is to know God. So ask yourself if you hold any hate for another in your heart how can you have room for Love, room for God

He probably will some time. Hopefully it won't be for a while though.
