Post Which Italian Will Be First To Win a Title?

Potito Starace (Age 28) - Has been to 2 finals - Lost to Nicolas Almagro in Valencia 6-4 2-6 1-6 and also lost to Juan Monaco in Kitzbuhel 7-5 3-6 4-6, lost 2 finals after being a set up in 2007.

Simone Bolleli (Age 23) - Has been to 1 final in which he lost to Fernando Gonzalez 6-7 7-6 3-6 at Munich last year.

Andreas Seppi (Age 25) - Has been to 1 final at Gstaad in 2007 where he lost to Paul Henri Mathieu 7-6 4-6 5-7

Fabio Fognini (Age 22) - Has never been to a final however is improving all the time and has lots of talent, also lost a tight match last week in Stuttgard semi final against Hanescu.

In My opinion i believe that Simone Bolleli will be first to win a title although not this year, i would like Starace to win one first though.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Re: Which Italian Will Be First To Win a Title?

It's quite possible for Bolelli to win a title before he becomes consistent on a weekly basis, so he's my first choice.

Filippo VOLANDRI, Pablo ANDUJAR, Yuki BHAMBRI, Fabio FOGNINI, Thomaz BELLUCCI,
Santiago GIRALDO, Donald YOUNG, Gael MONFILS, Juan Martin DEL POTRO, Alexandr DOLGOPOLOV

Simon|Mathieu|Falla|Bolelli|Kyrgios|Verdasco
Monaco|Garcia-Lopez|Dancevic|Granollers|Cilic|Schwank
Wolmarans|Ferrer|Robredo|Alcaide|Starace

Maybe Fabio in a small tournament... though I haven't really seen many of their matches so you probably shouldn't be asking me.

The first one who is in form during a mug claycourt tournament and doesn't choke in the final. I think at least one of them will eventually win a title but I don't know which one.

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: Which Italian Will Be First To Win a Title?

I think they all have the potential to win one, but at the same time it would not be a major shock if none of them won a title in their careers. Voted for Seppi in this poll.

Re: Which Italian Will Be First To Win a Title?

I think Fognini is capable. He beat Berdych and Cilic in successive rounds at Monte Carlo and then gave Andy Murray a tough match. Also beast Davydenko recently. With the right draw in the right tournament I would back him.

Sensible thread by the way.

Really I don't know who of them.
It should be good enough for Italy to reach, at least, one...

Re: Which Italian Will Be First To Win a Title?

I think Seppi has the best chance I think. He is a solid player on both clay and hardcourts and he hits off both wings quite well. However, for a 6'3" guy he doesn't have a great serve and he gets punished like he is shorter than 6 feet too..

Anyone also seem to have mistaken him for Hewitt once or twice? I know I have.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber
