Laver vs. Connors Youtube clip

WOW, they hit the ball as hard as anyone today I think. This was AMAZING, and I'm not even sure what year it is in. It's gotta be 72/73, right? They are both unbelievable. Connors' groundstrokes are as hard and flat as anyone's I've ever seen, and Laver's volleys are incredible.

If I lose the first set, the match will be complicate, no?

My favorite Federer and Nadal quotes following their 2008 Wimbledon final:

“But right now, it’s not much of a how do you say? a feel-good thing.”
-Roger Federer
"In the last game, I didn't see nothing. The true, I wasn't see nothing, no?"
-Rafael Nadal

Of course you do know that Laver is the GOAT
...
That clip was from 1975, when Connors was the reigning AO, Wimby & USO champion..
Rod Laver was 37 yrs old at the time, yet even as he neared retirement he was obviously a maestro

The original uploader's video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sptdf...eature=related

Slightly better quality too, I think.

'A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.'

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Great stuff here, thanks for the vid.

Aggressive and courageous style REAL tennis from these guys.....not running around retrieving like dogs, praying for errors.

Two guys basically pounding away at each other, attacking, and neither wanting to give up the baseline. Unfortunately for me, I saw that match live.. I am the same age as James Scott... Keep in mind, in this match, Laver is 14 years Conners' senior at age 36.

Re: Laver vs. Connors Youtube clip

it is beautiful to view the superior movement that natural surfaces and fogiving tournament calendars allow the players of this age, laver (36)... in the creation of the atp, the players, in believing they were forming a formidable collection of professional, have now eventually signed themselves into a collective bargaining agreement that heavily disagrees with career longevity...

thus, robbing you, the fans...

Re: Laver vs. Connors Youtube clip

Good to watch and they didn't have these NASA style racquets either.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
