Robredo beats Fish 36 76(5) 62

Match summary:

Fish better player set 1

Fish brainfart start of set2, but takes it to a tiebreak, loses it.

Fish opening service game, 30-15, misses ridiculously easy volley, misses ridiculously easy smash, then spanks one miles out of court

Fish gives up mentally, enormous UE-fest, couldn't play 3 shots without an error. Immediately goes 0-4.

Unreal, Robredo has won 11 tie-breaks in a row. Fish was two points away from victory in the tie-break (like Safin who lost to Robredo after almost identical scoreline in Rome).

Nice fight from Fish in the third there.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Fish couldn't avoid the reel, though only has himself to blame, some good stuff, mixed in with some crap.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

That is such a pity. Fish continues to play really smart tennis this clay season. Stepanek would have been proud of some of the volleys he pulled off. At least it should make for a much better grass season.

Congrats Robredo. That point at 5-5 in the TB won him the match. A great BH return to Fish's feet followed by a BH passing shot up the line.

Re: Robredo beats Fish 36 76(5) 62

The Socksless was the better player in the first set, good disguised serving, net charging, effective volleys. He was about to continue in the same rhythm in the second, but he twisted his ankle a bit in the opening service game, got distracted and Robredo seized the moment and broke him. Fish needed some time to recuperate and he re-broke when Robredo was serving for the set. But Tommy is very strong in mental department, took the TB and from there on there was only one way for Fish - down. He got a confused at times what tactics to use, went for a more on groundstrokes and started to make large quantity of UEs. Of course that Robredo largely contributed to that, attacking when he was in right position or waiting patiently for Fish to burn out in the rally.
