Question So, did Roddick destroy Tennis??

Back when Roddick was number 1, the whiners here were claiming that a huge serving ballbasher wasn't good to have a the top of the sport. 5 years later do you feel that tennis to a turn for the better? In my opinion both styles are enjoyable but on decoturf i would like less pushing and more winners smacked.

I prefer the old Roddick. Much more interesting and enjoyable to watch.
What does he need that monster serve for now? He neutralizes it almost instantly with the pusher shots right away..

Roger Federer. Legend.

They just bitched because it was Roddick. Even if Andy had a game like Federer they still would have bitched!:retard:

Tennis is tennis, and whatever style the #1 player is playing then so be it. The only think that can "Destroy" tennis for a short period of time is if the top 10 is filled with meh players (ie Ferrer, Simon, Del Potro and the like).

Re: So, did Roddick destroy Tennis??

I even remember people claiming that in the Juniors clones of Roddick were being produced.

Couple of years after Roddick ascent to number 1 with jkust a serve and forehand, things took a turn in a completely different direction. A new player showed up, a player whose style is very appealing and Easy to emulate. Go to the current Juniors and you'll see an entire generation of Nadalesque players.
Will this save or kill tennis?

Most juniors lack the mental fortitude to emulate Nadal's game, so that comparison is a bit invalid.

Re: So, did Roddick destroy Tennis??

Won't stop them from trying to play like him. Strange enough, in 2004 Nadal was actually an agressive player and a good retreiver. Now he mostly leans to the counter-punching/retriever side of his game.

If one-dimensional moonballing and grinding become the new style of tennis, this sport truly is doomed.

Re: So, did Roddick destroy Tennis??

Andy destroyed a lot of MTFers dream that he'd be out of the top ten and go back to his real ranking of 119.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

Of course he didn't destroy tennis any more than Tracy Emin destroyed art. He proved his mediocrity and everybody ignored him; just as it should be.

Roddick destroyed tennis. I am surprised that he has not been sued by it.
