Nieminenīs wrist requires a surgery

This was posted on a finnish news website this morning. Quick translation of the article:

"Jarkko Nieminenīs wrist requires an athrostopic operation. The doctors have examined the wrist he hurt playing in Tunis last week and have come to the conclusion that an operaton is necessary, and it is now scheduled for next monday. After the operation Nieminen will have to wear a cast for 5 weeks and he will be unable to hit a two handed backhand for approximately three months. How fast he will recover depends on the physiotherapy.

Nieminen is obviously very dissapointed. He said he was slowly getting his game back on track and was really looking forward to the upcoming tournaments. This injury came at the worst possible time, and now the worst case scenario is that he will miss all the remaning Grand Slams this year."

Wow, this really bad news for Jarkko. I hope he can stay positive, but it really happened at the worst possible time. Here is the link to the original article, if someone needs it:

Re: Nieminenīs wrist requires a surgery

That's such bad luck for one of the most likable guys on tour.

Hope he can recovery quickly, but be smart about it and not rush any comeback.

“ On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Yes, absolutely one of the most likeable guys on tour. Never tried to be Elvis, always down to earth guy.

He should take protected ranking since it seems to me that he will be out until the end of the season.
3 months without racquet , requires at least 2 months of good preparing afterwards. I really hope he doesn't rush. The wrist should not be career threating injury, so better for him to be patient

Re: Nieminenīs wrist requires a surgery

From his blog.

There has now been further examinations on my wrist. The specialists have now come to the conclusion that I will need surgery on my wrist. I will go into surgery on Monday. I will need to have the arm in a cast for 5 weeks and I will not be able to hit a two handed backhand until 3 months after surgery. Of course, that depends on how well the rehabilitation will go. I am obviously extremely disappointed. This injury could not have been prevented in any way so it was a question of really bad luck. Right now I am able to appreciate the many years I went without serious injuries. I am most upset about the timing of this injury.

This is the peak of the season. All the big tournaments are around the corner and I was also starting to play really well again in Tunisia after a weak spring season. I found in Tunisia what I was looking for, which was wins, confidence and the red thread of the game. I was looking forward to the big tournaments, maybe now more than ever. Now, in the worst case scenario, I will miss all the Grand Slams. There is, however, no way to personally decide or choose the timing of these incidents. I will return hungry and motivated and well trained. You need to see the bright side in situations like this. Now I am able to enjoy more than usually the company of my family and friends, the Finnish summer and rock-concerts.

“ On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Looks like he has the same injury that kept Nicolas Kiefer off the tour for 1 year. Poor boy

Re: Nieminenīs wrist requires a surgery

Iīm sure he will recover, but maybe it would be a good idea to take the rest of the year off, and take his time. More than the physical side of it, Iīm worried about the psychological effect of an injury that was caused by nothing more than a normal backhand. It might be difficult for Jarkko to really go for his shots after something like this.

Good and fully recovery to Jarkko. We have seen that wrist injuries need their time to heal. Nicolas Kiefer was forced out of the tour for over a year.

And by coincidence they both use the same Wilson, don't they?

Can't believe this dickhead lost me $600 when he beat Djokovic. Good luck on the surgery and return Jarko.

Re: Nieminenīs wrist requires a surgery

Now everyone that loses you money needs to be insulted? And what are you doing betting on what's going to happen in the future? That's one of the lowest things you can do in life... especially if you consider it a method for income! I was once in a hotel in Reno, and saw plenty of addicts in the lobby drooling over the slot machines all night long... only in the morning to realize how pathetic they were.

Jarkko is one of the most consistent baseline hitters and a real joy to watch on the practice courts: Hopefully he makes a return!
