Hamburg 2007 against Federer. Maybe you don't consider that very close since the third set was 6-0, but you have matches where the third set was 6-1 or 6-2.

Football is one of the few areas of life where even if you're untutored, you can go to a ground and see George Best beat three men, and you can realise, 'I have seen genius.'

If you're going to including matches like Barca Final 08 and this year's Rome final, you need to include pretty much every match where he's lost a set and/or played a tight set. Mathieu and Federer at RG 06 for instance.

Yes, you're right.
I've chosen the matches when Rafa was, if I can say, "stretched" to the limit at some moment in the match. Like Djokovic does, usually.

I remember reading that he only felt really nervous at RG against mathieu in '06 (4 sets, 5 hr match) and grosjean in '05.

Oh, and in answer to your question:

2004 Stuttgart QF, lost to Ferrer 3-6 7-6(3) 5-7

I think the more interesting topic is the tightest shorts worn by Rafa on clay.

Good to see GM is now the Nadal worshipping forum.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Machado wins 6-2 6-1

Maybe we should choose the 1 that makes Rafa look the hottest?

Berdych | Murray | Tsonga | Monfils | Raonic | Soderling

yes I wondered the same : sure there have been many tight matches for him, but which one was the tightest ?

His improvements about that have been impressive actually : he surely has less tight matches, as he has lost some weight

useless old guy
