Future of American Tennis

The Usa is getting short of top players right now.
They only have Roddick, Blake and Fish in the top 50 now.
So where will it be in 5 years when they are gone?
Theres a lot of American in the 100 to 200 range but none of those players look like breaking the top 50 even.
So who is there coming up who could carry the torch for America at the top of the game?
Donald Young or John Isner

Re: Future of American Tennis

Hasn't the UK got enough problems of their own trying to breed tennis champions?

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

American tennis will be fine, it's just a matter of time until a top talent rises. Maybe that Harrison kid will be their saviour. If not him, then somebody else. A lot of kids playing tennis in the States. The talent will always be there.

Australia and Sweden both had quite impressive line ups a few years ago, but now both are pretty much shot.

Re: Future of American Tennis

No offense but i don't see any prospects for USA.

Young is indeed talented but he has a potential maybe for top 50.

He is also very incosistent and maybe has got an issue with giving it all for tennis.

He needs to work hard on every component of his game to reach high ranking. On the othe hand he has lost to some even future level opponents this year.

Isner? Fuck, no way. He is woodman. His baseline game isn't good. Maybe he will play some good tournaments but then he will suck.

Odesnik? Nice guy but no real weapons here.

Maybe Querrey. The guy is fun too watch. But his game is predictable. So he is another top 50 material.

What else? I don't see any

I think this two would combind most of GS and MS rest of year and of course next year.

Will one of them steal No 1 from Nadal????????? It's very possible in my opinion

When kids here in the US stop being so cocky and full of themselves, actually WORK HARD and dedicate themselves to the sport, and focus more on technique, spin, and placement as opposed to raw power, we might have a shot.

Re: Future of American Tennis

start marketing tennis players as having hoards of music video girl groupies & bouncing cars. give the us open winner a hummer instead of a lexus or whatever it is. none of this business of talking up players who speak 4 languages, have a clean record, and enjoy riding camels in dubai for promotional events. who wants that? marat came closest with all those blondes in his box a few years back, but this angle really needs to be emphasized more. each player needs legions of scantily glad girls in his entourage, not one pretty yet demure-looking girlfriend sitting with his parents in the stands. then you might get more kids willing to play & work harder at tennis instead of going into other sports.

lmao pretty much. American tennis players tend to be average athletes of wealthy families. Would have been awesome to see some of our better athletes like Allen Iverson or Randy Moss growing up playing tennis. Unfortunately that just doesn't happen.
